Tomorrow my parents will be celebrating their 61st wedding anniversary. In honor of that, I'd like to share their wedding picture with you. They were married in Lancaster, PA. My dad had his brothers and brother-in laws stand with him. All except Uncle Herman who volunteered to stay in Coudersport to cover for Uncle George's patients as well as his own. Pictured from left to right are: Doug Vaughan, Dave Faulkner, best man was George Mosch, the groom Paul Mosch, my grandfather, T Harold McMurray, John Mosch, and Ted Mauz. My mom had friends as her bridesmaids and her new sister-in-law Donavieve Vaughan was her matron-of honor; she is standing to the right of my mom. Flower girl is my dad's niece Wendy Guinta and ring bearer his nephew, Paul Vaughan, I also might add that they got engaged at Lyman Lake. That was the first time for Mom to meet all the Mosch's in Galeton, PA.

Debra Mosch Hunkele Yes, you're right! His second plane was a Beechcraft Bonanza. His first plane was a Piper Cherokee which he flew out of Potato City. Harry took my brothers and me on our first airplane ride in his red Euronka.

Tim Palmatier Nice try Aeronica. I soloed in that plane along with my brothers and sister and today my brother Bob has the airplane in Florida, restored and still flying. Also I believe Paul's Bonanza was a straight tail. Fun times

Paul Lynn Gardner I really like this post and the Lyman Lake story. I see that your mother must have been from Lancaster. Did your parents meet in that part of the state? Thanks for posting this Debra Mosch Hunkele. I would like to see more family weddings posted here. That would make a great series for all to enjoy and to get to know the family a little better.

Debra Mosch Hunkele They met as students at the University of PA in Philly. Mom was a nurse and dad a dentist. Mom graduated first and was the bread winner until Dad finished. Then they were stationed in the Navy at Quantico, VA before making there home in Coudersport. Dad's parents, Otto, picked out their home for them. It was quite the fixer upper so I hear; but I was born and raised in that house.

Sweltering in Lancaster, as I recall. My mom, Donnie, is to Dottie's left but photo right, standing behind my brother, Paul. I thought Aunt Dottie's brother, Tom, after whom her son Tommy is named, was in the party, too, but not depicted here. Uncle Dave and Aunt Verna, the oldest of Mosch sisters, were almost another set of parents for my mom and Uncle Paul, who asked Dave to call him "Benny" for some reason when he was a kid -- and doting Dave indulged him to his dying day, long after Benny/Paul had outgrown the moniker. (Debbie, Debra Mosch Hunkele ask your mom to tell you about the incident of the dog who stole her bra... hint: Bozo the Almost Basset Hound.)

Haha I will ask her about Bozo. I remember that crazy dog who thought Aunt Donnie's green carpet was grass! By the way, my Uncle Tom, mom's brother, was in the service and stationed in Germany at the time of their wedding. I know they really missed him especially on that day. Also my brother Dave was named after Uncle Dave. I'm going to call Dad Benny tomorrow and see if he reacts. Both parents memory has gotten much worse lately.

Debra Mosch Hunkele My dad remembers the start of the "Benny" name. Benjamin was Uncle Dave's middle name. Uncle Dave, his friend Basil Harris and my dad were working one summer for Papa and they all started calling each other Benny. Later, Basil Harris became Dad's math teacher, so of course Dad called him Benny in class. Well, from then on, under strict orders, he was only to be called Mr. Harris. After that they only called Dad "Benny." Mr. Harris eventually became principal, and maybe even a higher position, and was very intelligent.

Debra Mosch Hunkele Basil -- we marvelled at the strange name: where'd he get it? -- balding, owlish spectacled, kindly, was our principal at Galeton Joint School (all grades in one building when we moved from 1st grade on the hill behind the Presbyterean church, c. 1955). His spritely daughter Jennifer was in my class, neighbor to Wendy & Leslee. I did not know Basil's connection to my godfather, Uncle Dave, but Dave was the prankster nonpareil. He and my dad nearly burned down Bal'mer City in our treks to Aunt Verna's place near Joppatown on the bay. Idyllic...more later.
