Paul Lynn Gardner FROM A PREVIOUS POST: Lena Mosch (10) born May 25, 1867. She was the forth child of Karl (2) and Caroline (6) Mosch and was the youngest of the family when they left Germany. She married in 1884 William Kern (112) born June 4, 1859. He was a lumberman working in the local forests and also the Main woods. He lost considerable money due to unfavorable weather condition. They worked his entire lifetime to repay this debt. Also, they were able to buy their farm which was located at Marshlands. From this farm they moved to Galeton in 1909. William Kern died in 1928. Lena Mosch Kern has been a practical nurse in Galeton for many years.
They have 2 children:
Robert Kern (113) born Jan 11, 1886 married Gladys Mattison (115). Their address: Marshlands, Gaines. They have 4 children:
Cathryn Kern (116) born January 29, 1909,
William Kern (117) born February 15, 1910,

quarrel last night at home with wife, very heatd ca 23:00h.
"He placed butt of his shotgun on the floor, leaned the muzzle of the gun against his breast and pulled the trigger, causing a charge of shot to pass through his body, tearing a part of his heart.
While Mr. Kern was conscious from the time he arrived here until the end, he was too weak to converse freely."
Brought to hospital at 02:30h from Galeton.
Survived by his parents, his wife and one child.
Per one neighbor, husband and wife "both were a little hot headed."
"Mr. Kern was formerly employed as a car repairman in the B&S Railroad shops here, but was laid off with several others last February and was not among the men who quit work when the shopmen's strike was called.
He was a veteran of the World War, serving overseas. At the time of the outbreak of the war, he desired to enlist, and had considerable trouble in getting admitted on account of his age, but gained consent and made an excellent soldier."
He enlisted at the age of 16, made corporal shortly after having enlisted, the youngest corporal in the US Army.
United in marriage after the war to Miss Madeline Dent of Galeton.
- Age: 20- suicide, gun shot wound to heart & left lung. Died in Blossburg State Hospital, 7 hr stay.
