DR. PRESTON MOSCH ERWAY (1931-2013) OBITUARY
Preston Mosch Erway, MD, of Haverly Hill Road, Covington, died Tuesday morning March 19, 2013 at the Green Home, Wellsboro.
Preston was born on Dec. 10, 1931, the fourth child of the late Preston and Minnie (Mosch) Erway, at their dairy farm in Raymond, Potter County.
He graduated from Ulysses High School and attended Mansfield College, where he met Patricia Plotts. They were married in Watsontown on Nov. 28, 1953, after which Preston taught math and science for one year at Harrison Valley High School.
The following year he started medical school at Temple University in Philadelphia. Upon graduating he completed his medical internship in Harrisburg before joining a medical practice in Mansfield.
In 1963 he relocated his family to Wellsboro, where he lived and practiced as a family physician the next 30 years.
After retirement he enjoyed reading, traveling, tending his gardens and home landscapes and especially, golfing.
Preston, whose son Kevin passed away in 1997, is survived by
- his wife, Patricia (Plotts) Erway;
- a son, Brian (Jeanne) Erway of Rochester, N.Y.;
two daughters,
- Kathy (Lynn) Heck of Covington,
- Jill Erway of Mansfield;
six grandchildren,
- Galen and Felisa Erway of Rochester,
- Meghan (Heck) McFall of Port Arthur, Texas,
- Abbey and Nathan Heck, and Zackary Erway of Covington;
- great grand-son, Aiden McFall.
Also surviving him are three sisters and two brothers,
- Dale (Pearl) Erway,
- Rita (Bob) Barnett,
- Doris (Dale) Nichols,
- Gene (Sally) Erway, and
- Donna McCaslin;
many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service and celebration of Preston's life will be held Saturday, March 23, at 11 a.m., at the First Presbyterian Church, 130 Main St., Wellsboro. Family and friends will be received in the Lounge from 10 to 11 a.m., prior to the service with the Rev. Glen Hallead officiating.
- Burial will be at a later date at Raymond Cemetery.
Local arrangements by Tussey- Mosher Funeral Home, Ltd., ""A Life Celebration Home,"" 139 Main St., Wellsboro. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Tioga County Human Services Department where Dr. Erway volunteered after his retirement, or to Haven of Tioga County or Wellsboro Food Pantry.
Preston is the grandson of Emil Mosch and Wilhelmina Kortz, great grandson of Karl Mosch and Caroline Scheider, Jacob Kortz and Katherine Pflugfelder.

Preston Mosch Erway, MD, of Haverly Hill Road, Covington, died Tuesday morning, March 19th, 2013, at the Green Home, Wellsboro.
