My grandfather's story: Aunt Lyn Howell left a great elision between this chapter, The Legacy, and my grandfather's fulfillment of that immigrant's idyll, and that gap begins with the death of his father in 1894, at age 35, when Otto himself was only 7. Aunt Lyn may have filled that gap with stories of Otto's work in the timber, the camps, the hotel, his apprenticeship and schooling, but I don't have her account of those years. (My mother also wrote about his childhood travails in her own memoir, The Way I Remember It. I'll post those separately.) Evelyn's rendition of Papa's memoirs picks up again years later, when he had bought his uncle Chris's store in Galeton, with his courtship and marriage to Mabel Burrous in 1910.

Doug Vaughan Thanks go to my aunt Lyn Howell, a/k/a Evelyn Mosch (Colcord) on her birthday. Of the 8 children of Otto Carl and Mabel Burrous Mosch -- Herman, Verna, John, George, Evelyn, Louetta, Donavieve (my mom a/k/a Donnie) and Paul -- only Lyn and Paul remain, along with John's widow Terry, George's wife Doris, Paul's Dorothy ("Dottie") and my dad, Donnie's first husband. When I get home, I'll have more photos and memories to share, including Mom's memoirs. I hope Lyn and Paul's kids, John, Scott Colcord, Christine Kellerman, Phillip, and Tom, David Mosch, Debra Mosch Hunkele, respectively, will post more of their parents' first-person recollections. That goes for John's Patty and Woody Mosch; Herman's Evelyn ("Lynnie"), Carolyn Busch, Jeanie Satterwhite, George, Margaret ("Peggy"); George's Steve, Amy Boardman, Sally, Luke Mosch; Louetta's Leslee Mauz Masolotte, Wendy Guinta, and other cousins for whom I have no FB connection.

This picture always makes me smile. I believe this was a celebration for Aunt Lyn right before she got married. My dad looks like he would rather be anywhere; he would have been 16 here.

Do you have a date for this?

Luke Mosch
It says 1947 in the post.

Yes, I saw the year. But "date" means month and day.

Ok then, right you are. I though you may have missed that.

p.s., sceret history: tryinhg to figure whther this was before or after my mom and dad eloped to aunt Verna-Uncle Dave's to get secretly married in MD -- might explain his odd "shrinking violet" pose as a new invitee to the shindig.

Pat Linkoski Yes, I was 11. I can't believe the boy in the grass is Ray. It doesn't look like him tho' the age, 9, is likely. See my sister, Linda, and her blonde curls?

I was so happy to discover this picture. I do not remember the day, the picture. I have never seen these people all together before in a picture. I just contacted Aunt Mary's daughter here in FL to look for the site! So happy!

I wish I could remember this day. I never saw everyone together at one time before. Others guessing boy in front of Aunt Mary is my brother. I doesn't look like him to me but who else could it be? Who is the little girl with her back to pix? Who is next to Aunt Mary? Is the Barbara that texted above George's daughter?

Joanette Edgar 2 little girls are Herman's daughters, Carol and Lyn, and their mom, Eleanor is next to Aunt Mary. And yes Barbara is George's daughter.
