Beacker, M. Margaret, age 79 of Carter Camp, PA, Thursday, August 2, 1973, in Charles Cole Memorial Hospital, Coudersport, PA. Friends may call at the Brown Funeral Home, Galeton, Friday 7 to 9 p.m. and Saturday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Burial in Yochum Hill Cemetery, Carter Camp, PA. Survived by one daughter, Mrs. Mary Gross of Star Route, Galeton; three sons, Harold and Milton, both of Germania, PA and Vernon of Galeton RD; one sister, Miss Elizabeth Gerner, of Salamanca, NY; one brother, Theodore Gerner of Germania, PA; 14 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a son, Charles, preceded her in death. She was a member of the Carter Camp Grange.
BEHRMAN
Belle Behrman Rees, age 75, 38 North Main St., Albion, PA died Saturday afternoon at the Erie Osteopathic Hospital following an extended illness. Born in Smithfield, WV, on October 6, 1897, she was the daughter of the late George and Bertha Aechsel Behrman. She had resided in the Albion area for thirty-five years having formerly lived in Westfield, PA. Mrs. Rees was a member of the Westfield Episcopal Church, the Albion Curlitt Club, the Albion Garden Club, the Albion Thimble Club, the Albion Needlecraft Club and the W.S.C.S. Also, she was a life member of Cowanesque Chapter No. 33 O.E.S., Albion American Legion Auxiliary. Survivors include her husband, Thomas E. Rees; a daughter, Elizabeth A. Rees, Albion; and a brother, Herbert Behrman, Rochester, NY. Funeral services were held Tuesday with the Rev. Henry Zimmerman officiating. Burial was in the Albion Cemetery.
BLACKWELL
Mrs. Sara A Sundberg, 63, wife of Albert K. Sundberg, of 942 High Street, Williamsport, formerly of Mansfield, died at 5:30 a.m. Saturday, September 9, 1972, in the Williamsport Hospital, after a lengthy illness. Her husband was assistant county superintendent of Schools for a number of years and later acting superintendent. He was formerly on the Mansfield State College faculty. Mrs. Sundberg was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Williamsport. She was also a member of the Williamsport Hospital Auxiliary. Born in Jersey Shore April 13, 1909, she was the daughter of James and Bertha Geist Blackwell. Surviving besides her husband, are one daughter, Mrs. Jim Welch, of Mansfield, and two grandchildren. The funeral was at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Kelchner’s 125 North Main Street, Jersey Shore. Burial was in Jersey Shore Cemetery.

Mrs. Nora M. Shartle, 72, 529 State Drive, Lebanon, died Saturday, Nov. 6, 1971, at her residence. Mrs. Shartle is the mother of Ernest J. Shartle of Towanda. She was a member of the Faith Tabernacle Church of Lebanon and the Lebanon County Historical Society. Surviving are her husband, William J. Shartle, Sr.; seven daughters, Mrs. Ernest J. (Nora) Boyer, Jr. of Palmyra, Mrs. Richard (Ruthella) Royer of Lebanon, Mrs. Robert (Verna) Ebright of Lebanon, Mrs. Allen (Pauline) Sattasahn of Lebanon. Mrs. Ernest (Lola) Groff of Lebanon, Mrs. Griffith (Lula) Weik of Lebanon and Miss Dorothy Shartle at home; four sons, Ernest J. Shartle of Towanda, William J. Shartle, jr., of Lebanon, Lester I. Shartle of Myertown and Paul W. Shartle of Fredricksburg; two brothers, Paul Bowman of Lebanon and Lester Bowman of Bethlehem; 37 grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Rohland Funeral Home, Fifth and Cumberland Sts., Lebanon.
BRASTED
Delbert C. Brasted, age 87 of 19 Sherwood Street, Mansfield died Monday, February 12, 1973. Born December 5th, 1885 in New York State, he was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Clement Brasted. He was a retired Cheesemaker. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Mansfield and he also served as a Deacon.
He is survived by one daughter, Miss Gwendolyn Brasted at home; a brother, Leon Brasted of New Orleans, a sister, Mrs. Ethel Flinn, of Canisteo, New York.
Funeral service will be held at the Kuhl Funeral Home, 18 North Main Street in Mansfield on Thursday at 1 p.m. Rev. Benjamin Nevin, his pastor, will officiate. Burial in Woodlawn Cemetery, Almond, New York.
BRION
Orrin D. Brion, age 69, of Liberty RD 1, died Thursday, Nov. 23, 1978 in the Williamsport Hospital, where he had been admitted Sept. 20. He would have observed his 70th birthday Sunday, Nov. 26. Born Nov. 26, 1908, in Liberty Township, he was the son of Edward W. and Myrtle Miller Brion. He was a member of Salem Lutheran Church, Hartsfield. He was a 50-year member of Sebring Grange No. 1047. Mr. Brion was a member of the Northeastern Artificial breeders Association and the Dairy Herd Improvement Association and was a member of the American Jersey Cattle Club. Surviving are his wife, the former Leola Beck; a daughter, Mrs. Vivian Kilmer, at home; a brother, R. Clair. Of Wellsboro; two sisters. Mrs. Edith Brion, of Liberty, and Mrs. Romain Harer, of Liberty RD; and one grandchild. The funeral was held Monday at the church with the Rev. Richard Ebel, Liberty officiating. Burial was in Salem St. Paul Cemetery, Hartsfield.
BROMFIELD
One of the leading citizens of this community, Malcolm P. Bromfield, 53 of West Lawn, Lewisburg, RD 1, died suddenly Saturday, May 26 1973, while playing golf on the Bucknell University Golf course. He was president of the Lewisburg National bank the last four years and served on the bank board of Directors. Mr. Bromfield was married to the former Edna L. Price. Born March 17, 1920 at Wilkes-Barre, he was the son of the late Walter and Ruth (Poad) Bromfield. He was a member of the Beaver Memorial United Methodist Church where he served as Sunday School teacher and treasurer of Project 70 at the Church. He was a member and past president of the Lewisburg Lion’s Club. He was past secretary-treasurer of Group IV of the Pennsylvania Bankers Association and served on its executive board. Mr. Bromfield taught classes at Bucknell University for the American Institute of Banking. He was a graduate of the Rutgers School of Banking and of the University of Pennsylvania Wharton Extension School of Finance. A former resident of Blossburg, Mr. Bromfield was a member of Blossburg F. and A.M. Lodge 350. He was a member of the Sand Run Hunting Club and the Bucknell Golf Club. A veteran of the Second World War, Mr. Bromfield served with the army as a topographic engineer in the EuropeanTheater. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are two sons, Wayne A., a student at Dickinson School of Law at Carlisle and Walter T., at home; a daughter, Mrs. Ruth Ann Andrews, of Spring Lake, N.C., and a brother, Forrest Bromfield of Kingston. Services will be held Wednesday at 3 p.m. at Beaver United Methodist Church with the Rev. Bruce Knisley and the Rev. Victor K. Meredith, Jr., officiating. Burial will be in Lewisburg Cemetery.
BROTZMAN
Gerald L. Brotzman, 48 of 512 Clark St., Waverly, died unexpectedly Tuesday afternoon, Jan. 29, 1974 at the Robert Packer Hospital where he had been taken by the Valley Ambulance after being stricken at his home. Born in Laceyville, Feb. 28, 1925, he was the son of Mrs. Daisy Butcher of Elmira St., So. Waverly and the late Clarence Brotzman. Mr. Brotzman was a graduate of Laceyville High School and attended Penn State University. He was a self-employed electrician. Surviving are his wife, Leola, at home; three sons, Elwood of Waverly and Graceson and Aaron, both of Sayre; one daughter, Mrs. Richard (Judy) Winslow of Sayre; six step-children, Ralph Robinson and Lloyd Robinson, both of Elmira, Judson Robinson of Portsmouth, Va., Laural Phelps, also of Portsmouth, and James Robinson, who is serving with the U.S. Army in Germany; 18 grandchildren, two brothers, Gideon Brotzman of Meshoppen and Elwood Brotzman of Laceyville and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral arrangements are incomplete at the Sheldon funeral Home in Laceyville.

Brown of Cannon, Pa. and Joseph E. Brown of Bodines, Pa.; three grandchildren. He was an employee of the Penn Central Railroad, (formerly Penna. Railroad) Forest Fire Warden at Millerton, Pa.

Brown, Stannard age 68 of R.D. 3 Glenora Rd., Dundee, Tuesday, November 14, 1978 at his home. Mr. Brown was born in Elmira, N.Y., on April 28, 1910. He was associated with Roscoe Wixson Sr. as an apiarist. During this time Mr. Brown also made State inspections of apiaries. He was later a machinist at the American LaFrance Co. of Elmira and the Corning Glass works, from which he was retired. He was a member of Lakemont Congregational Christian Church. He is survived by his wife, Leuettea; one son Chy, of Dundee; two daughters, Mrs. Thomas (Marcelle) Mitchell of Dundee and Mrs. Stanley (Clara) Bingham of Carthage, N.Y.; one stepson, Jessie B. Hammond of Pittsbutgh, Pa.; three stepdaughters, Mrs. Elvin (Wilma) Belcher at Pittsburgh, Mrs. Kenneth (Sylvia) Mead of Addison, N.Y., Delores Cisco of Dundee; one sister, Margaret Woore of Miami; 15 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren. A memorial service was held on Saturday, November 18, at the Lakemont Congregational Church. Interment was in the Lakemont Cemetery. Arrangements were by the Pennington Funeral Home, Dundee. Contributions in Mr. Brown’s memory may be made to the Lakemont Church or to the Dundee Ambulance Corps.

Byrem, John A. age 72, of Troy, Pa., Friday, April 21, 1978, of cancer at the Troy Community Hospital. There will be a memorial service at the First Presbyterian Church in Troy at 4 p.m. on Tuesday. Rev. Alan Minarcik officiating. Arrangements by the Vickery Funeral Home of Troy. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Troy Hospital Axiliary, First Presbyterian Church in Troy, or the Community Church of Hohokus, N.J. survived by his wife, Eleanor, daughters Mrs. Elizabeth Robbins of Washington, DC, Mrs. Margaret Daly of Hohokus, New Jersey, 4 grandchildren, 1 niece, Mrs. Nancy Brown of Lancaster, Pa. Mr. Byrem was a retired buyer of S.H. Kress Company. He was born in Harrisburg, was a graduate of Harrisburg Technical High School and Penn State University. He was a member of the Hohokus Comunity Church, The Consistory, and the Classis and National Synod of the Reformed Church of America the First Presbyterian Church of Troy, Lackawanna Presbytery, Trojan Masonic Lodge, past High Priest of the Royal Arch Chapter of Troy, Scottish Rite of Towanda, Williamsport Consistory where he was an active member of their band, Harrisburg Shrine, Chairman of Bicentennial Committee of Troy, and active in the Troy Community Hospital Building Fund Drive.
CADY
Woodhull-Raymond M. Cady 87, of Troupsburg, N.Y., died Tuesday morning, October 9th, 1973 at the Bradford Hospital at Bradford, Pa., where he had been a patient for about two months. Born in Brookfield Township, Pennsylvania July 5, 1885, he was the son of Burr and Lucy (Davis) Cady. He was a farmer in the town of Troupsburg most of his life, and was a member of the Troupsburg Methodist Church. His wife, the former Catherine Harrington, died in 1970. He is survived by one son, Harold Cady of Knoxville; two daughters, Mrs. Luella Dibble of Wellsville, N.Y., Mrs. Lucy Seeley of Elkland. Also surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Rena Gunn and Mrs. Fannie Harrington, both of Troupsburg, 15 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren and several great-great- grandchildren. The body was taken to the H.P. Smith and Son Funeral Home in Woodhull. Friends called Tuesday evening and Wednesday and funeral services were held Thursday at 11 a.m. The Rev. Howard Richardson, pastor of the Troupsburg United Methodist Church, officiated and burial was in Mount Hope Cemetery, Troupsburg.

Capt. William Cafferata
William Cafferata, Captain, U. S. Navy, ret., died suddenly Dec. 12, 1978, while in Washington, DC. Death was attributed to a fatal heart attack. He was a resident of Eagles Mere, where he was active in community affairs and in the real estate business. Surviving are his wife, Julia (Dudie), two daughters and a son. Arrangements and other details were not available at press time yesterday.
CAIN
Gerald J. Cain, 63, of RD 1 New Albany, died Sept. 8, 1978, at Robert Packer Hospital, Sayre, following a brief illness. He was born Aug. 30, 1915, in Wilmot Twp., Bradford Co., a son of Philip and Anna North Cain. He attended the Norconk School and St. Basil’s High School in Dushore. He was engaged in farming until his father’s death in 1956, and still kept a small herd of beef and dairy cattle. Mr. Cain was an agent for Nationwide Insurance Co for 40 years, until his retirement April 1, 1978 His office was located on Main St., Dushore, behind the Monument. He married the former Josephine Saxe Rouse on April 20, 1974. He was an active member of St. Basil’s Church and of its Holy Name Society. He was a member of St. Basil’s choir for over 40 years and throughout his lifetime he sang at over 400 weddings. He was also a commemtator for St. Basil’s Church. He was a member of the Dushore Lions Club and of the Order of Hibernia. Surviving are his wife, Josephine, at home; two brothers, John of Williamatic, Ct. and Philip of Philadelphia; three stepsons, John Rouse of Vestal, N.Y.; Daniel Rouse of Syracuse, N.Y.; and William Rouse of Dushore; four stepdaughters, Mrs. Margaret Albrechta of Binghamton, Mrs. Theresa Hanafin of Endicott, Mrs. Susanna Michalek of Johnson City, N.Y., and Mrs. Rosemary Wood of Binghamton, 30 step-grandchildrn; one niece and one nephew. Funeral services were held Sept. 11 from the Regina Tubach Homer Funeral Home, Dushore, followed by a 10:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Basil’s Church. Interment was in the parish cemetery. A Vigil Service was conducted Sunday night by Rev. Fenton Fitzpatrick, S.J., Rev. Joseph T. Conboy was celebrant of the Mass of Christian Burial and cocelebrants were Rev. John Polinsky and Rev. Fenton Fitzpatrick, S.J.

Mrs. Bessie M. Boyce, 76, of RD1 Fountain, Fla. Formerly of Waverly, died Sunday Dec. 26, 1971 in Florida following a lingering illness. Surviving are her husband, Elmer, at home; a sister, Mrs. Joseph (Agnes) Reese of Sayre; a brother, Carl S. Campbell of Mansfield; an aunt, Mrs. Peter Campbell of Sayre; two step-daughters, 2 step-sons, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Gardens, Panama City, Fla.
CAMPBELL Jessie W. Chapin
Mrs. Jessie W. Chapin, 87, of 102 Vista Drive, Sayre, died at 2:30 this morning, Dec. 10, 1971, at the Robert Packer Hospital following an extended illness.
Born in Elizabeth, N.J., she had resided in this area for the past six years. She was a member of the Madison Avenue Presbyterian Church at Elizabeth and of the Eastern Star and the Daughters of America. Surviving are two sons, Wilson J. Robertson of Sayre and Jack K. Robertson of Elizabeth, N.J.; two granddaughters, Mrs. Joan Tomek of Elizabeth and Mrs. Mary Lynn McNamara of Roselle Park, N.J.; two grandsons, Richard J. and Bruce W. Robertson, both of Sayre and several nieces nephews. The body will be taken to the McCracken Funeral Home in Union, N.J. where funeral services will be held Monday at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Elizabeth, N.J. Jessie Chapin who died on December 10, 1971... birth name was Jessie Campbell... married James Robertson..after he died she married Chapin..

Many Wellsboroans were saddened this week by the untimely death of David J. Campman, age 61, of Lockport, N.Y., formerly of Wellsboro, who died last Saturday, October 27th at the Millard Fillmore Hospital at Buffalo, N.Y. where he was a surgical patient. He was born on February 15, 1912 at Avis, Pa. the son of the late Charles W. and Helen Peters Campman. Mr. Campman, a former Wellsboro businessman, was a Past Master of Ossea Lodge No. 317 of Wellsboro. He is survived by his wife, Helen Gaylor Campman; two daughters, Mrs. John (Kenneth) Lane of Williamsville, N.Y., and Mrs. Lawrence J. (Margaret) Mitchell of Wellsboro; two brothers, C. Leo Campman and Arthur R. Campman, both of California; and three sisters, Mrs. Waldo (Margaret) Shumway, Miss Helen Campman, and Mrs. Thomas (Martha) close, all of Wellsboro. A son, Phillip J. Campman and a brother, G. Frederick Campman are deceased. Masonic services were held on Monday, October 29th and funeral services were conducted Tuesday, October 30th by Rev. Alfred Gross, Methodist minister formerly of Wellsboro at the Beach Tuyne Funeral Home at Williamsville, N.Y. Memorial contributions may be made in Mr. Campman’s name to the new Intensive Care Unit of the Millard Fillmore Hospital, 3 Gates Circle, Buffalo, N. Y.

Mrs. Loretta Carpenter Grames, 37, of 925 S. Brevard Avenue, Cocoa Beach, Florida died on Sunday night as a result of a drowning in the ocean on the beach near her home.(13 Aug 1972) She was born in Charleston Township, daughter of Ret. Chief Petty Officer Charles G. and Esther Anderson Carpenter. She attended schools in Middlebury Center for a short period of time and then with her family she moved to Norfolk, Virginia where she continued her schooling. She also graduated from College in Norfolk. She was married to H. Jack Grames, who with the U.S. Navy serves as a Senior Inspector for Capsules. Besides her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Jennifer, age 7 and a son, Andrew, 5; her parents of Norfolk, a sister, Mrs. Patricia Jacobs of Norfolk, and her grandmother, Mrs. Ida Carpenter of Middlebury Center. At the time of this writing, details on funeral services were incomplete.

William H. (Hump) Casher Sr., 76, of Lawrenceville, formerly of Clearfield, died Tuesday, October 17, 1978, at the Green Home, Wellsboro where he had been a resident for the last four years. Mr. Casher was born in Snow Shoe, Pa., Clearfield County in 1902 the son of Samuel and Lucy (Hall) Casher. He was retired from the Ingersoll Rand Company, Painted Post, N.Y., and was a member of the Tioga Volunteer Fire Company. Mr. Casher was married to the former Margaret Snyder in March, 1929. Besides his wife he is survived by ten children; four daughters, Mrs. Howard (Ruth) Wilson of Tioga; Mrs. Frederick (Audrey) Wisor of Mineral Springs, pa.; Mrs. Homer (Jane) Wisor of Woodland, Pa. and Mrs. William (Carol Ann) Cody of Lawrenceville; Six sons; Donald (Tuff) Casher of Tioga, Hersey (Lee) of Hampton Va.; Hillary (Coke) of Wellsboro. William H. Jr. (Buck) of Lawrenceville; James of Tioga; Charles (Chard) of Mineral Springs, Pa. One brother, James of Clearfield, Pa.37 grandchildren. CHAMBERLAIN
Carl Chamberlain, 63, of 135 Broad Street, Montgomery, was pronounced dead at the scene of a car-tractor-trailer accident on Route 15, four miles south of Williamsport, at 7:10 Monday night. According to the state police Chamberlain had been traveling south and stopped in the southbound lane prior to making a left turn onto Township Route 520. After stopping, police said Chamberlain started to make his turn in the path of a southbound tractor-trailer truck. The rig, which was in the act of passing another vehicle, swerved to avoid hitting the car. In the meantime, another tractor-trailer truck driven by Mitchell S. Kehauver, 29 of Fenton R.D. 1, York County, was unable to swerve out of the way and struck the Chamberlain car, police said. The impact caused the Chamberlain car to hit a utility pole and it continued into a small stream. Mr. Chamberlain was born April 28, 1908, in Mainesburg, a son of Albert and Neva Burdett Chamberlain. A member of the First United Methodist Church of Montgomery, he was a member of that church’s administrative board. He owned and operated Chamberlain’s Dairy for the past 13 years. He was a member of the Montgomery Rotary and active in many civic affairs. He is survived by his wife, the former Bertha Dunn: a daughter, Mrs. Greta Vairo, of Media; a son, Harold, of Camarillo, Calif.; a brother, Harold B., of Mainesburg, and eight grandchildren. The funeral was at 2 p.m. Friday at the First United Methodist Church in Montgomery. The Rev. Donald C. Nolder, his pastor, officiated. Burial was in the Fairview Cemetery, Montgomery.

Joseph Clarke Chisler, age 90, father of Mrs. George C. Williams of Wellsboro died on Tuesday, February 7, 1978 at the Green Home in Wellsboro where her had been one of the first residents at the nursing facility. Mr. Chisler was born May 15, 1887 in New Freeport, Pa. the son of Jasper and Delialah Chisler. He was a member of the Shadyside Presbyterian Church in Pittsburgh. Mr. Chisler was a retired employee of the Consolidated Natural Gas System where he held various executive responsibilities, his last having been Vice president and Treasurer of the Hope Natural Gas Company of Clarksburg, West Virginia. His career spanned the development of the Natural Gas business in Western Pennsylvania from the early part of the century until his retirement in 1952. His wife, Evelyn Jackson Chisler who preceded him in death in 1960 is buried in Pittsburgh, where Mr. Chisler will also buried. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be sent to Shadyside Presbyterian Church in Pittsburgh or the Green Home in Wellsboro. In addition to his daughter, Nancy, he is survived by three grandchildren, Joseph C. Williams of London, England; Mrs. Tabor Bent of New York City; and Caleb Williams of Wellsboro. Dr. W.E. Cleveland, 81, of West Palm beach, Florida, died Sunday, February 4th, 1973 in St. Marys Hospital, West Palm Beach. He was born in Ansonia, Pa., June 14, 1891, a son of N. R. Cleveland and Flora B. McInroy Cleveland. Surviving are one sister, Mrs. Willard Webster, of Wellsboro RD 2,; one nephew, Homer Webster and several cousins. Richard E. Clinton Dies in Puerto Rico.
Richard E. Clinton, son of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Clinton of Wellsboro died November 4 (1971) at his home in Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico. He was born in Copperstown, N.Y. but resieded for many years in Cincinnatus, N.Y. After graduation from Syracuse University in 1950 he went to San Juan, Puerto Rico where he was associated with Merrill, Lynch, Pearce, Fenner and Smith in which company he became senior account executive and stockholder. Mr. Clinton was the first President of the Association of Urbanization of University Gardens where he resided with his family. He was a charter member of the local chapter of the National Exchange Club and was recently given a testimonial dinner and honored with life membership, the first ever given by that organization. He was also a member of the Board of Directors of University Gardens Recreational Park. Mr. Clinton is survived by his wife, Leticia, two children, Richard and Fatima, his mother and father, Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Clinton of Wellsboro, sister Lois Gygax of Pompton Plains, N.J. and several nieces and nephews. High Requiem Mass was offered November 5 at Sacred Heart Church in Rio Piedras with burial in Porta Coela Cemetery in Bayamon, Puerto Rico.

Wilbur L. Close, 82, of Salem, Oregon died on Tuesday, May 8th, 1973. He was a brother of Ernest V. Close of Tompkins and of Mrs. Laura Gleason of R.D. Knoxville. Mr. Close had been in declining health since January of 1972. He was injured in an accidental fall, and never completely recovered, family members inform. He was a native of Lawrence Township, born on the Close Homestead in Tompkins on March 4th, 1891, the son of Galusha Grow and Julia (Weeks) Close. After receiving his public education in this area, Mr. close attended agricultural classes at Penn State University, and moved to Oregon in 1916 during his senior year. In Oregon, he was affiliated with the State Department of Agriculture and shipping point inspection work. He retired about ten years ago. There are four children in Salem surviving in addition to relatives in the Cowanesque Valley.

Wallace M. Codney, 86 of Trout Run, RD 1, died at 5:30 p.m. Sunday, October 1, 1972 at home following an extended illness. Born at Blossburg, March 29, 1886, Mr. Codney started his trade when he was 15. At that time he took a job with the Wellsboro Advocate. Mr. Codney assembled the first linotype machine in Tioga County, and was the first linotype operator in that county. He went to Brooklyn, N.Y., to get the machine in 1907, brought it back and assembled it for operation in Wellsboro. After six years on the Advocate, he worked for a short period for the Binghamton Book Manufacturing Co. In Sept. 1909 he went to Williamsport with the Gazette and Bulletin forerunner to the now Williamsport Sun. He retired in 1952 as a linotype operator for that newspaper. Mr. Codney was a member of the Centennial United Methodist Church, Cogan House, Pa. He was also a member of the International Typographical Union for 65 years, and was the oldest member of length of service in Local 141, Williamsport, Pa. He first joined the union in 1907 in Elmira, N.Y. Surviving are a son, William W., with whom he lived; a daughter, Mrs. Janet Maneval of Liberty, Pa., five grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held in Williamsport on Wednesday, October 4, with Rev. Donald E. Mummert his Pastor officiating. Burial was in Wildwood Cemetery, Williamsport, Pa.

Lester W. Cohick, 74, of Morris RD 1 and a former resident of Linden died at 10:10 p.m. Sunday, January 1, 1978, in Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital, Wellsboro. Born Nov. 7, 1903, at Letonia, he was a son of Maynard and Margaret Willits Cohick. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Jersey Shore. Bradford Man Found Dead
Herrickville-Francis W. Colegrove, 46, died in his home in this eastern Bradford County community Tuesday afternoon from what county coroner Gordon Farr of Ulster said was a self inflicted gunshot wound. Mr. Colegrove, who at one time was employed in Elmira has worked for the Allis mills near here for the past five years. He was the father of eight children all at home.

Hubert C. Colvin, 80, of 229 Davis Street, Blossburg, died at 4 p.m. Tuesday, January 1, 1974, in the Williamsport Hospital, where he had been a medical patient since Monday.
COLVIN
Dr. Merl G. Colvin 71, of Williamsport RD 2, city health adviser and pathologist at the Williamsport Hospital, died there on Sunday, May 21, 1972. He served as city health officer from 1942 to 1962 and held the non-paying job of city health adviser at the time of his death. He was honored by the city in March for his service. Dr. Colvin was a graduate of Bucknell University where he was fund manager of the class of 1924, and a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity. He was a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania Medical School. He interned at the University of Pennsylvania Hospital and studied pathology at the Yale Medical School. He was a retired Lycoming County health officer. A past president of the Lycoming County Medical Society, he was a member of the American Medical Assn., American College of Physicians, American Society of Clinical Pathologists and Pennsylvania Medical Society, he was also a member of the Williamsport Kiwanis Club, Ross Club and a charter member of the Newberry Lions Club. He also served as attending pathologist at Blossburg, Wellsboro, Lock haven, Centre County, Shamokin and Muncy Valley Hospitals. A member of the Pennsylvania Advisory Health Board, he was the author of several medical papers and contributed to the medical society’s history of Lycoming County. The funeral was held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Robert A. Allen, his pastor, officiated. Burial was in Mound Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, friends are requested to contribute to the Memorial fund at the Wellsboro Soldiers and Sailors Hospital, which will be used to purchase new laboratory equipment.

Angeline Coveney Byrne of New Egypt, N.J., formerly of Athens, died suddenly at her home at 8 a.m. Wednesday, June 30, 1971.
Born in Athens RD 1, she was the daughter of Mary O’Brien Coveney and the late James T. Coveney. A Sayre High School graduate, she earned a bachelor of arts degree from Trenton State College and taught in New Brunswick and New Egypt, N.J. In 1966, she married Warren H. Byrne of New Egypt and resided there since, teaching in Pemberton schools. She is survived by her husband and three stepchildren, Warren, Jr., recently returned from Vietnam, Kathy of Virginia, and Tina at home; her mother and a sister, Louise, both of New Egypt; a sister, Mrs. Edward (Mary Ellen) Syer of Willingboro, N.J.; a niece and nephew, Elizabeth and Edward Syer, Jr., an uncle, Joseph D. James T. Crowley, 61, of Berkeley, Cal., formerly of 140 Providence St., Waverly, died at the Berkeley Hospital on Sunday following a brief illness. Born in Waverly in 1910, he was the son of the late Jeremiah and Nora Crowley and was educated in Waverly Schools. He left Waverly in 1928 and at the time of his death was amember of the Berkeley Police Department. He is survived by his wife, Edith, at home; two sons, James, Jr. and Albert, both at home; two sisters, Mrs. Ellen Lewis of Proctor, Pa., and Mrs. Genevieve Lattimer of Waverly; and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Lucy Cullen Collins, 79, of Dushore, died Friday morning (Aug 15, 1970) at the Nesbit Hospital in Kingston following a lingering illness. Mrs. Collins was born Dec. 19, 1890 in Scranton, a daughter of the late William F. and Mary Winn Cullen. Her husband, the late J.E. Collins, preceded her in death by a number of years. She was a member of St. Basil’s Catholic Church in Dushore. For several years during the late 1920’s she had owned and operated a restaurant in Dushore. She then moved to Washington, D.C., where she was employed by the U.S. Government until her retirement several years ago. She had been a resident of Dushore for the past four years. Surviving are; two sons, Joseph and William of Kensington; a daughter, Mrs. Janet Derby of Bowie, Md.; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Prayer services will be held at the Russell P. Mrs. Cora M. Shaffer, 87, of New Millport died Saturday, Oct. 14, 1972, in the Clearfield hospital. Born Jan. 8, 1885 in Sweden Valley, she was a daughter of George and Lydia Verguson Mitchell. She married Orel Shaffer, who preceded her in death in 1939. Surviving are a son, Paul Shaffer, Temperance, MI; a daughter, Mrs. Lena Myers, New Millport; a sister, Mrs. Nettie Coats, Genesee; and two brothers, Carl E. Mitchell, Coudersport, and Harry Mitchell, Hornell, NY; 17 grandchildren; 53 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren. Friends were received at the Bennett Funeral Home in Clearfield. A funeral service was held Tuesday, Oct. 17, at the New Millport United Methodist Church where she was a member. The Rev. Boyd Cable and the Rev. William Norman officiated. Interment was in Fruit Hill Cemetery, New Millport.

Mrs. Anna N. Parshal, 85, Riverside Dr., Athens, formerly of 500 Fulton St., Waverly, died Friday, Dec. 31, 1971 at her home following a brief illness. Born in North VanEtten, Aug. 5, 1886, the daughter of the late John and Maria Manning Norris, she resided in VanEtten until 1907 when she moved to Waverly. She married the late Clifford Parshall, a Waverly mail carrier in 1909. He died March 8, 1958. Mrs. Parshall was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church, Waverly, and was a member of the church choir from 1907 until 1963. She was active in church affairs and was a member of the Waverly Polyhymnia Club. She was the mother of the late Mrs. Anna Wells who with her husband, Charles Wells of Waverly died as the result of an accident in Elmira on Nov. 20, 1964. Surviving are two sons, Norris P. Parshall of Athens and John W. Parsall of San Antonio, Texas; a daughter, Mrs. Helen Hammond of Willard, N.Y., two brothers, Charles and Sabert Norris, both of North Waverly; ten grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Leo Palmer, 47, of Baldwinsville, N.Y., brother of a Sayre resident, died Friday morning, Jan. 22, 1971 in Baldwinsville following a short illness. He had resided there for the past 23 years. Surviving are his wife, Alberta, at home; a daughter, Miss Peggy Palmer, also at home; three brothers, Frederick of San Diego, Calif., Albert of Baldwinsville and Donald of Sayre; three sisters, Mrs. Eva Mulligan of Sayre and Mrs. Sarah Eiseman and Mrs. Charlotte Wood, both of the Oswego, N.Y. area. Mr. Palmer was a 1927 graduate of Sayre High School. Robert W. Ramey, 85, of 702 Church Street, Athens, died suddenly at 3:15 this morning, Dec. 30, 1971, at his home. Born in Brandt, PA, March 23, 1886, the son of the late William and Mary Lee Ramey, he attended school in Susquehanna, PA. He came to the Valley in October of 1909 and began work in the Round House of the Lehigh Valley Railroad. One year later he became a switchman in the yards retiring in 1955 with 47 years of service. Mr. Ramey was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Athens and of the United Transportation Union, Local 337. Mr. Ramey and his wife celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary on Jan 23, 1971. Surviving are his wife, Catherine at home; three daughters, Mrs. Charles (Catherine) Vallilee of Waverly, Mrs. Paul (Margaret) Vormwald of Cortland and Mrs. William (Ann) Barber of Sayre; seven grandchildren, four great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Mable Smith of Park Hill Manor attended the funeral of her son, Earl (Stub) Rouse, on Friday, July 28, 1972. He died in Endicott, NY after a long illness, and was buried there. Mrs. DeWitt Gerow and her husband, Mrs. Smith’s daughter, drove her mother to Endicott. Before the funeral service began word was received by the family of the death of Mrs. Smith’s son-in-law , Harold Cheesman, husband of Frances Rouse Cheesman, of Buffalo. On Monday Dolores Cheesman took her grandmother, Mrs. Smith, for the funeral. They returned to Wellsboro that evening.

Sefchick, 42, of 1132 Centre St., Bellefonte, died at the Mountainview unit of the Centre Community Hospital Wednesday, January 23rd at 11:00a.m. He was born February 17, 1931 at Clarence, the son of Michael and Verna Kriscia Sefchick. In 1959, he married Kathryn (Kay) Crosetto, formerly of Wellsboro, who survives with two children, William Jr. and Mary, at home, brothers and sisters: Mrs. Madeline Zacharke, Joseph and John Sefchick, Philadelphia; Mrs. Margaret Stemple, Ridley Park; Mrs. Agnes Glesener, Savanna, IL; Mrs. Mildred Ramotnik, Long Island, NY; James, Tampa, FL, and Mrs. Verna Sustrik, Philipsburg. He was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church, Bellefonte, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and Fire Company of Snow Shoe. He was a veteran of the Korean War, having served as a corporal in the Army with the 630th Quartermasters Corp. He enlisted September 24, 1952, at Harrisburg and was discharged September 23, 1954 at Fort Lee, VA. Funeral services were held at St. John’s Catholic Church in Bellefonte Saturday morning with Rt. Harry C. Severson, 71, of Reading, PA, died Tuesday, November 21, 1972 at a hospital in Reading, PA. He was born in Wellsboro, PA, son of the former C. Severson and Louise Severson of Wellsboro Surviving are his wife, Ruth, of Reading, PA, two sons, Ronald A. Severson of Vienna, VA and Harry C. Severson, Jr. of Reading, PA, and five grandchildren. He is also survived by one sister, Mrs. Emerette Dearman, of Knoxville, PA. Mr. Severson was a retired Telephone Company employee. Burial was in Forest Hills Memorial Park, Reading, PA.

Clyde L. Smith, 43, of Dover, PA, was killed in a one car accident just south of Mansfield early Sunday morning, Nov. 1972. Mansfied state police said Mr. Smith was pronounced dead on arrival at Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital. Exact cause of death was not known, officials said. Police said Mr. Smith was traveling east on Rt. 660, two and a half miles south of Mansfield when his 1966 moden sedan went off the south side of the highway and struck a culvert at 1:30 a.m. Police said the vehicle was demolished.

Rowland D. Smith, 80, of 1301 E. Lake Road, Hammondsport and Florida, formerly of Corning, died Sunday at midnight Strong Memorial Hospital, Rochester. 26 Aug 1973 He was admitted there Tuesday and was operated on Friday for aneurysm. He was a retired chemical engineer for Corning Glass Works and a member of the First Congregational, United Church of Christ here. Mr. Smith was born in Battle Creek, MI, son of the late Mr. And Mrs. James Smith. He married Anna Wheat June 28, 1919 in the Congregational Church manse. Mr. Smith joined Corning Glass Works in 1916 after his graduation from the University of Michigan where he received a BS Degree in chemical engineering. For several years he was director of chemical and metallurgical engineering in the Glass Technology Department and was recognized for many contributions made toward the development of new glass materials and processes. THANKSGIVING TRADITION
The McElroy Thanksgiving tradition in Coudersport started at the Frinks Station Farm in 1922, moved to the Gardner-Gamble home in 1950 and to the Leet home in 2006 and has continued every year to the present. Marriages, births and deaths have changed many who attend, but the spirit remains the same.

THE BUCK CONNECTION
A couple of months ago, cousin, Steve Erway and I were conversing about the Buck family on his mother’s side of the family. It so happens that I was named for my Uncle Paul Buck. I had not entered any of Uncle Paul’s family into my genealogy. I also did not enter any of Steve’s mom’s family information. This motivated me to finally get around to the Buck entries, resulting in finding a “Buck Connection”.
My mom’s sister, Lucille Olive McElroy was born in Jan 1923 to Hertha and Egbert Mosch McElroy. She married Paul Barker Buck in Apr of 1944. Lucille and Paul made their home on the Buck family dairy farm in Ulysses, PA. Unfortunately, their marriage was cut short when Lucille developed a heart ailment and died in October 1948. She also was pregnant with their first child. Paul never remarried and stayed on the farm until his death in December 1988.
