- [S644] FaceBook- Jeannette Morley Buck, 5 pics- Clark; Nancy Eliz WILLIAMS SNYDER dialogue.
FBMessenger, 20140302, Jeannette Morely Buck: Jane Morley Clark, her daughter Chloe Clark Grosshanns, Chloe's daughter Betty Longhouse and Betty's twin sons. 12:21am Great! Can you help me out with the children of Rowley, or Raleigh, Clark and to which mother they belong? 8:07am William Raleigh Clark. He was known as Will. Sorry this gets so muddled --- but there were several William Clarks--- so have to keep them identified. William R. Clark and Joyca Merrick Clark were the parents of Norman-- who died at 14. Do u know how he died? That is so tragic! No. It was in the 1880s-- you know-- disease was often deadly. William Raleigh Clark born Mar. 28, 1840 Poltney, NY married Joyca Merrick, b May. 8, 1844 and di. Dec. 13, 1870. Their son, Norman died aged about 14. Second WRC married Joyca's younger sister Eva S. Merrick July 16, 1871. Ostensibly to take care of his son.. They had: Nathaniel, died at 22 of typhoid, Ethel who married #1 Landon and #2 Andregg. Ada married Bert Rogers, Josephine married Ira Bradish, Hugh and Dan. Eva died in her early thirties-- leaving a young family. The Merrick women were sisters to my maternal great grandmother, Caroline Merrick Young who was the wife of Rawson H. Young Third. WRC marrid Sarah JANE Morley and they had Anna (Martin) and Chloe (Grosshanns.) Will Clark was a Civil War vet-- having "marched with Sherman to the sea." He was a blacksmith in Gold for many years. 5 hours ago "Hugh and Dan" are sons of WRC and Eva. I realized that that read oddly. 2 hours ago

Hi, John enjoyed your pictures
Sent you a note about one of them.
April 13, 2012 9:16 pm
Jeannette, Do you have any photos of Nancy Elizabeth Williams Snyder? Do you know how she died? So close after Doris' birth, was it complications from childbirth?
No, I don't. I wonder if anyone does. I don't know why she died but I think that is a reasonable guess.
I wonder if there is an obit anywhere?
Did you ever check the papers from that time?
There are tintypes of the men when they were young
good idea, but obits don't really say much, although they are usually valuable for family connections.
I would expect that somewhere there should be one of her.
No those old ones don't say much.
Come to think of it, I never saw a young picture of Roxie, either.
Please post, if you find something. I've been consumed with loading many of these terrific photos you've been posting, so thanks again so much! I can't keep up with you.
I am always so amazed at how much people do enjoy them.
I really don't know where to look.
The best bet would be at the historical society
Do you know who Llewelan Metcalf's father was?
We have a death date see what newspapers were available at the time.
Don't know a thing about the Metcalf's
Tell me how that fits in.
I'll check that out
Dad used to talk about the Springs and the Swifts. He had met some of your family at the Williams reunions.
When he was quite young.
And he just had a working knowledge in his head of who eveeryone was/is.
As Kaye Swift Baxter wrote earlier, he was her brother in law. He's 2 generations away from Marion(!) That's what I suspected, when I saw 'Metcalf' in your communication string on one of your photos. Kaye confirmed it, but I haven't actually connected the two ends yet.
Huh! Thats interesting.
How old would he be?
The Janice Hanes that posted the picture for is Marion's daughter.
about 70, I think.
She had an older sister named Geraldine and I wonder if Llewellen was her brother????
If he was, he would be some older than that.
I am 73 - and Janice must be close to 70 herself.
She had a brother with a different name that I never knew.
I'll let you know when I figure it out. I'm going to check out some obits now, catch you later.
OK later.
April 14, 2012 11:50 am
I'm looking for specific people, like Nancy Elizabeth. Your ID's on the photos really help. I want to fix a face, surroundings, commentary,... with as many people as possible.
I wish we could find a picture of her. ANd of course, there are so many pictures with no identification on them.
Do you have my Dad's family picture? I think you have most any that I have.
That Metcalf connection is interesting.
not sure to which you're referring. I have several of him and your mom. I'm so glad I got to meet them and talk with them when I visited. I feel a connection, I liked them both instantly, very much.
Do you have one with his parents and his siblings? or a later one with him and his siblings?
I think you have one of Edsil and Betsy and the girls.
Have you posted them on FB? I'm organizing them, which is actually somewhat easy on FTM, since they can be categorized, and I put them all in various references of Jeannette Morley Buck, to keep sourcing straight. It all takes time, but saves time in being able to access... I hope...
I'm glad you got to meet Dad and Mom. They enjoyed it, too. Especially Dad. He loved making family connections just as I do.
I have posted them, but it has been a while. If you go down my page you should find them. Or do you want me to repost them?
I'll find them, thanks. You're doing enough, I don't want to make more work for you. Keep posting new ones, if you can.
OK, I will.
If you don't find what you are looking for, let me know.
Another subject. Don Perry. I don't have him in FTM yet, but I assume he's in the Doris Snyder Perry family somewhere. I want to use the photo of him and the 3 ladies, Soule...
Don isn't a Williams. He was married to my Dad's Morley cousin, Mable Morley.
Kathy Soule is my sister, Cindy Chick Alackness is my sister, Jane Daniels is my sister.
I also would like to learn more about Doris Snyder Perry, circumstances around her birth and Etta's death, etc. Was she adopted by Perry's? Mom was explaining once, a long time ago. How I wish she were here!! She'd love this!! I miss her so!
I don't know about her?? We will have to get together and chew through some of this stuff.
do you have that reunion picture? That would be a fun one to post.
ahh thanks. I'll organize that part now. What a nice photo to use for that group!!who were Mable's parents?"that reunion"?
Mack and Eurgertha Everett Morley. Mack was Seth Morley 's (my grandpa) brother.
I'll post the reunion picture. Don't think I ever did and it has lots of interesting people in it.
A Williams reunion.
I do have one, you posted one a few days ago. Eager to see it.
Nope, this is a different one. Just give me a few minutes.
ah hah! I have Mack, but no family yet. I'll take care of that now (those leaves on ancestry.com really are helpful!) Catching up with you...
Just posted a pic of Roxie and family. Scanning the reunion one. I have a stack here-- will work on them after I eat a little lunch.
who is Eileen Smith? Is she related somehow? Should she be in The Tree?I'm entering census data for Mack, to get his family straight.
Nope. Eileen is a friend.
April 14, 2012 2:02 pm
What was Eugertha's maiden name?names of her parents? no tree connections for her on the web so far.
Everett. Her father was Henry and her mother was Augusta Skinner.
They were from the Tioga County-- came here to run the store.
I don't even have your family complete! I have no Cindy.
Chester H. and Betsey E. Young Morley
Children: Jeannette Lois, Pearl Marguerite (Peggy), Jane Marie, Kathryn Mary, Lucinda Grace and Daniel Seth.
I misunderstood your description of sisters, then, above: Cindy Chick Alackness? "is my sister"?
Yes, but her real name is Lucinda. Sorry. I can't remember what info you gathered when you were here.
oops! makes sense, never considered that, thanks
I posted two new pictures-- reunion ones. Let me know when you are ready for more. Or if you want more. Do you have a good one of George and Sarah Williams? Or their daughter Mabel?
always want more, still catching up
ok-- let me know when you are ready for more pictures.
Nancy Goodenough married Seth Morley??? She was in my class, but I thought she married someone else, can't remember now. Just came across that in the Tree
Becky Perry Boyd? parents? Can you upload a larger version of the siters w Don Perry? When I crop, they get blurry.
Did Nancy also marry Tim Palmatier? Is Cindy Chick Alackness 'Chick166' in ancestry.com, Morley Family Tree?
Nancy Goodenough married Daniel Seth Morley. She went to Northern Potter School. Becky Perry Boyd is a daughter of Donald and Mable Morley Perry. I don't know about Cindy being Chick 166. I have never done ancestry.com.
I don't think I can make that picture any different.
Chick166 is the ID of the source of the Morley FT on the site, interesting that your sister hs this in her name. Where does that come from nickname?
Her first husband was Rick Chick. No joke. Her kids are Chicks
lol
Also--- her son Wesley Chick may have some stuff on there.
She has been working on her husband's Alackness genealogy. He died 2 years ago and it keeps her busy. He was Lithuanian so the spelling gets changed all the time.
very interesting, thank you.
I think Wes has done some work on Ancestry at various times.
now some of your Friends names make sense, Cindy Alackness, Caroline Chick Powers, ...
Yep. Caroline lives in Coudersport-- and probably knows a lot of the folks you know.
Cindy is 10 years younger than me. Her husband left before Wes was born-- Caroline was 5 months old. So we tell folks they were raised by a committee.
Caroline alway has said that Bob (my husband) was like a father to her. He gave her away at her wedding.
But the family just circled the wagons and -- Cindy had to go to work-- we all raised the kids.
My sister Jane's husband died when her kids were small -- and Kathy's husband left for greener pastures when her kids weren't very old.
I take it all so for granted that I don't realize how strange that all may sound to someone else.
April 15, 2012 7:00 pm
John, you have the picture of Henry Williams, don't you?
April 15, 2012 8:01 pm
Posted another one for you.
April 15, 2012 10:26 pm
Yes, I've got Henry, thanks.
thought you did.
I think you have everybody.
April 17, 2012 9:20 am
John, just found a snapshot here
labeled Mary Morley and Daisy Foster cousins with Mazie and Cora sisters
I know that Philemon had a daughter Mazie who married a Porter. Bet he had a daughter, Cora, too.
But still don't know if he had any sons
Thanks, I'll check it out. Feelin' better?
He died in Dalton, NY. Suppose that would help?
OH, yes. Do you want this picture?
What was your father in law's name? I want to add Erways, need a starting point.
My father in law was Lawrence Eugene Buck wife, Mabel Evans Buck
April 21, 2012 2:00 pm
John, I made contact with Maizie Williams Porter's great grandson. He is interested-- but I have no idea if he has any information. And I don't know HOW interested he is. Another link in the chain, anyway.
great. What was Dorothy Buck Erway's husband's name?Back to the Williams 1930 reunion, do you think the dark haired woman next to Iva and Merlyn, if that is indeed who they are, was Aunt Grace? Do you think Fred Snyder was in it?I'm about to travel, I'll catch up later.
April 21, 2012 4:24 pm
Dorothy's husband was Eugene Erway. I'll have to look at the picture. later--
April 23, 2012 10:43 am
OK, John. I found Dalton, NY It is in Livingston County. Haven't played around with it but
Phileomn died there in 1904 guessing he was also buried there. At least a place to start. You are better at this than I am. Where would you go from here?
April 23, 2012 12:54 pm
www.findagrave.com look up the cemetery. Sometimes, depending on the local effort on the site, they have good relationship info. I'm really busy today, but I'll check this out later myself. I'm still surprised that there is nothing helpful on ancestry.com
I don't know which cemetery. I don't know anything. ANd it seems funny to me that there isn't more information somewhere. Dad used to talk about him Of course, he didn't remember him-- maybe it was just his name. They called him "Uncle Fleem". Said that he told his wife not to pack a lunch for him when he went into the woods that day, he wouldn't be needing it. And he died of a heart attack before noon. Wish I knew where to ask--
John, I believe that Philemon is buried in Livingston County, NY-- but I couldn't get on without joining-- and I'm just too cheap to do that. Don't want to give them my credit card #. So-- his middle name was Philer or Filer. (what a handle to hang on an innocent baby!)
OK 1880 census---- Philomen F. Williams (gives birth date as 1851 -- family record says 1849) Household: wife Mary and (here is the clincher) Edsal (sp?) brother 19 years. . Age is right and how many Philemons are there with a brother Edsal (or Edsil) listed as living in Letonia, Tioga Co, PA. Edsil left home at a very early age-- because he disliked his stepmother. I have always been told that he lived with family at times-- and found work in the lumber camps. (No children listed for Philomen and Mary.) Wish I could find an 1890 census
April 23, 2012 8:20 pm
The censi are often off by a year or even two, birthdate is estimated by age at time of census, so that, too, is consistent. Wife Mary, that's a step in the right direction, too. I'll check the cemetery, back shortly.
I'm sure that is the right one. But I can't find him anywhere else. I"ll keep plugging. Maybe, if Grandpa Edsil lived with him for a while, that is why he talked so much about him to Dad. 'Cause Dad mentioned him often-- and of course, would never have known him.
April 23, 2012 11:00 pm
I've pursued the other Philemon I found, in Utah. A totally different family, as far back as I've gone, but I wonder if there is some connection with the name, Philemon. Well, that was a blind alley that I now have in my Tree, just in case a connection appears, you never know.
April 24, 2012 8:16 am
I found Philemon Williams's in the south--- all black. You just never know!! That would have rattled Grandpa Edsil's chain (I have his application to the KKK!) Makes me cringe, but I don't throw it away. After all -- it speaks of the times. I'm sure the one in Tioga county is our PHileoman Filer-- . I tend to be sporadic about this, but I wll keep kicking around with the death in Dalton. Several are buried in Woodhull, NY. Haven't found him yet. Onward we go.
April 24, 2012 10:00 am
I've looked in Steuben county also, nothing. Strange, I'll keep looking too. It's so easy to get side-tracked in a tangent. I have so many different goals, the main one right now, to identify candidates for Janice Kelly's grgrandmother, still.
Yes, I suspect they didn't have enough money to move him much and that he is buried somewhere there near Dalton. There should be an obiturary or something. Let me know if you ever find him-- and I'll do the same. I'll keep knocking on the Lampman door, too. Just maybe someone there will have a tidbit.
May 11, 2012 2:07 pm
How is the search going? Have you found any more proof of the possible adoption of a child from Potter County?
No, I haven't been able to work on it for several days, 'cause my day job has been getting in the way. This week in Philadelphia, now in State College, next week in Richmond. Hoping to be able to do some work on it later today. I've loved downloading the photos you've posted with some of the supporting dialogue to ID the people.
Well, I'll be interested in what you come up with.
May 16, 2012 2:50 pm
Just curious--- do you have a nephew Todd Wetzel?
yes, my brother Wayne's #2 son. WHY?
well, my niece Caroline Powers is babysitting his baby, Nora. Just thought it was sort of neat. I asked Caroline if the baby was related to Merlyn but of course she didn't know. I told C if I'm right, you and this baby are related.
May 16, 2012 5:23 pm
wow! cool!
yes!
June 23, 2012 6:53 pm
John, do you have the write up that was in the Hospice news letter after your mother passed away?
About your mother, I meant to say.
Not electronically. I'm in the middle of a move, Columbia SC to Richmond VA, in Richmond now but about to head for Columbia for a couple days, so I'll look for it down there. I would like to have it for her in my file, so I'm glad you asked.
I ran on to it today. I can scan it for you-- would that work? No hurry.
June 23, 2012 9:54 pm

I lost track of the picture you were asking about with the three women and the babies.
They are not Wiliams connection.
Jane Morley Clark, her daughter Chloe Clark Grosshanns, Chloe's daughter Betty Longhouse and Betty's twin sons.
12:21am
Great!
Can you help me out with the children of Rowley, or Raleigh, Clark and to which mother they belong?
8:07am
William Raleigh Clark. He was known as Will. Sorry this gets so muddled --- but there were several William Clarks--- so have to keep them identified.
Yes, I can give you the children.. William R. Clark and Joyca Merrick Clark were the parents of Norman-- who died at 14.
Do u know how he died? That is so tragic!
No. It was in the 1880s-- you know-- disease was often deadly.
I will get back to this--
Thanks so much!
I am curious though. Why are you interested in this line? Are you connected to it in some way? Which would not be unusual, considering the twists and turns that genealogy takes-
My Tree is broad brushed, interested in all family connections, even distant. Make sense?
Sure-- I am, too. Just wondering.
I'll fill in the Clark's for you have to look some of it up.
The interconnections can be fascinating, but I have to be very careful about accuracy. That's why I appreciate your contributions, & pics & info, like occupation, cause of death, etc bring them alive, excuse the word play.
Well don't have all of that -- but I can give you dates for some. later--

"Hugh and Dan" are sons of WRC and Eva. I realized that that read oddly.

Thanks for straightening that out. Great info!
OK --anytime. Let me know about other "stuff" you might want.

OK later.

No hurry.
June 23, 2012 9:54 pm
yes, that would be great!! Thank you so much!

Second WRC married Joyca's younger sister Eva S. Merrick July 16, 1871. Ostensibly to take care of his son.. They had:
