Levi Henry Hall Jr - known as Henry to most - born January 15, 1878, in Mason, Ingham County, Michigan - Died February 6, 1950 in WheatRidge, Jefferson County, Colorado. Levi was the fifth child of seven born to Levi Henry Hall Sr. and Sarah Ann (Dunkerton) Hall.
Married Lottie Mae Tanner of Rose Hill, Adams Co., Colorado (later to become part of Rocky Mtn Arsenal). They were married July 5, 1914 in Golden, Jefferson Co., Colorado. they had seven children - Raymond Francis, Aaron Richard, Evelyn Lottie, Henry Horace, Frederick Calvin, William Kenneth and George Wayne.
Levi and brother John Roger moved from Michigan in 1896 to Lawrence County,
Tennesee with their father and mother. They became involved in lumber or a lumber mill. Shown on 1900 census in Civil District 2, Lawrence County, Tennesee.
Moving to Fairmont, Jefferson co., Colorado, later in 1900. It is unkown what inspired Levi and his parents to come to Colorado. They built a house at 48th and Indiana St in Fairmont, Jefferson Co., Colorado.,of hardwoods brought to Colorado by wagon or train. The house still stands today. they had a substantial amount of land in which they operated a truck farm. Levi on a business trip in 1913 made a trip to Rose Hill to visit Horace Monroe Tanner about livestock. It happened to be laundry day and Lottie Mae Tanner (Horace'[s daughter) with her mother Mary (Ager) Tanner were in the yard washing clothes as Levi arrived. Struck by her solid structure and how she was dressed, (a long dress with an apron) he decided this was the girl for him. Due to the distance the courtship was short. To marry July 5, 1914.
Levi was struck with diabetes at a fairly young age, but continued to work the farm beside his growing boys. Making several long trips from Golden to Arvada to sell his produce or buy supplies. It was said by horse and wagon this was an all day job.
Then while working on the roof of the barn he lost his balance falling to the ground. Refusing to see a doctor his back became progressively worse. Eventually unable to walk he spent the rest of his life in a wheel chair. Only twice in his late years was he ever seen standing. Once to calm wild grandkids running through the house. The other was the day he died. Asking Lottie to help him to the sink for a drink. Passing away later that afternoon.
It was said Levi was a stikingly good looking man with dark hair and deep piercing brown eyes. He was quite an angry man later in life. Likely due to the frustration of his physical inability. He demanded hard work from all of his children. Almost to the point of cruelty. In sprite of his anger, Lottie and he were bonded to one another to the day he died.
Levi is buried at Crown Hill Cemetary, Wheat Ridge, Jefferson Co., Colorado, next to wife Lotte May and son Freddie Calvin.
