LEWIS ANGEVINE
Lewis Angevine was born in Broome County, N. Y., November 4, 1846 and was married in Coudersport, Pa., to Safrona Roberts on May 4, 1871. He died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. George Barr in Austin on January 18, 1931.
Deceased spent some years near Pine Creek where he worked for Henry Dyr hauling logs. He met his wife in 1867 while she worked at the James Francis camp. Later he moved to a small farm near Sweden Valley. He was employed by A. G. Lyman as carpenter to build the saw mill after which he was filer and kept boarding house for the men who worked in the mill. He did the carpenter work on the Methodist Church and was superintendent of the Sunday School until he moved away. All children of that generation will remember his faithful work In the church and Sunday school. His joyful voice singing the hymns of that day is still a familiar memory that will be with many of the pupils to the end of their earthly career. He had no great wealth, but the amount that he will inherit in his Father's kingdom will not be small.
In 1890 Mr. Angevine with his family moved to Costello, where they made many friends. Their home was a place where hospitality, good cheer and christian living was the daily routine. Here the family grew up and went out to homes of their own. In addition to their own family at this time, two little twin girls, Hattie and Mattie, now
- Mrs. Arthur Hillegas, Whitesville, and
- Mrs. Fritz Craven of , Wellsville, N. Y.,
were taken in and raised to womanhood.
Mrs. Angevine died a number of years ago.
Five children were born to them, namely:
- Warren E., of Costello;
- Mrs. Nora Barr, of Austin;
- Phoebe Evens of New-
... ton Falls, N. Y.;
- Dean L., deceased; and
- John, who died in infancy.
About the year 1820 two brothers, one of whom was William Angevine, grandfather of Lewis Angevine, came to this country in a vessel of war and landed in New York City, where William remained, his brother going farther west and was not heard from agam. Later another brother, Ezerhat, came over and he died in New York and another brother later came to Rochester, N. Y.
One son of William Angevine, Lewis went to Broome County, where he married a French girl named Johnston and they had a little farm where their children were born, namely:
- William George,
- Phoebe Jane,
- Barnett,
- Lewis,
- Delilah and
- Richard B. who recently died. Mrs. Angevine died when Richard was an infant and he was given to a family in Broome County by the name of Mason. Later he married Eunlce Tull and to this union were born twins,
- Lucinda and
- Locina
who died;
- Angeline who married Isa Holden;
- Jonn T., who married Amanda Matter;
- Lewis who married Saphrona Roberts;
- Nancy who married Chester Glover and
- Eunice who married Andy Gouse.
Funeral services were held at the Sweden valley M. E. Church on January 21 and
- interment was made in Sweden Hill cemetery.

Potter County
As we have done for numerous Pennsylvania counties (hover over each county on the PA map on our home page), we are posting completely free, downloadable township images from the Map of Potter Co., Penna. from Recent and Actual Surrveys and Official Records published under the superintendence of F.W. Beers by J.W. Vose & Co. in 1893. This map, found in the Library of Congress, is in the public domain but the images we have taken of the atlas posted below belong to us and are not to be used for commercial use. For those wishing to use them for personal use (including illustrating a family history you are working on), we give permission to use them, but we would appreciate attribution to Ancestor Tracks. It takes much time and effort to locate, process, and post these and the many other county images we have posted, so we expect and appreciate this courtesy. We hope that you will find this atlas a useful tool for when coupled with the censuses and published county histories. Click on the township of your choice and once they have downloaded completely, click on them again to enlarge and clarify them. They may be saved to your computer by right-clicking and selecting "Save Image As..."
