Mrs. Benson's maternal grandmother, Mary Law, was born in England and married, for her first husband, Thomas Bee, and for her second husband, John Bell, and with her second husband came to America , about 1800, bringing her five children, Thomas, Mary, and John Bee, and William and John Bell, and were among the first settlers of Ceres Township. Thomas Bee and his Brother John, uncles of Mrs. Benson, and natives of England, were also pioneers of Ceres, John paying for the homestead and caring for his mother and stepfather while they lived.

Robert Gilbert, son of Robert HGilbert deceased, and Mary his wife, and Mary Bee daughter of Thomas Bee deceased, and Mary his wife, appearing in this meeting declared their intention of marriage with each other; the coment(sic) of Robert's mother is expressed in writing- and Mary's mother being present , expressed her comment- William Ellis and Joseph Carpenter are appointed to make the necessary inquiry of Robert's changes(?) on the occasion and report to next meeting.

Joseph Carpenter and William Ellis report they have complied with their appointment on the inquiry respecting Robert Gilbert's (clearnys...?) etc. and find nothing to obstruct and that the young people appearing and declaring the continuation of their intentions of marriage as minuted at last meeting- They are left at liberty to accomplish the same according to good order- and Jesu Haines and William Ellis are appointed to attend the same, and see that it is so conducted, and to have the marriage certificate put on record- . and the distance from their habitation and circumstances of this nature being opened to the meeting and spoken to- friends are united in a belief that on the present occasion it will be proper to indulge the accomplishing the marriage at the close of this meeting-- the shutter being lowered and the meeting made public for that purpose.
