Mr. and Mrs. Steven McDowell
Miss Beverly J. Grandin, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William H. Grandin, and Steven E. McDowell, son of Mr. and Mrs. Earl McDowell Jr., all of Roulette, were united in marriage Saturday (June 18, 1977) in the Riverside United Methodist Church, Roulette.
The Rev. W. Dennie Zeares, pastor, officiated for the doublering ceremony. Mrs. Norman Haskins was organist.
The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore a gown of sheer woven nylon, lined with acetate taffeta which was lavishly trimmed in nylon and acetate Chantilly lace. It was styled with an empire bodice, stand-up collar, long fitted sleeves with snap cuffs, and a full apron back. A lace applique of iridescent sequins highlighed the bouffant skirt with zippered back closing attached ruffle edged the train. A white picture hat complemented her ensemble. She carried a circular bouquet of white mums with yellow and blue baby's-breath accented with bride's lace streamers.
Brenda S. Grandin was maid of honor for her sister and chose a gown of baby blue with short angel sleeves trimmed with white lace, she carried blue mums with yellow baby'sbreath and rainbow streamers, and wore yellow baby's-breath in her hair. Barbara J. Grandin, sister of the bride, was bridesmaid. Her gown was yellow trimmed with white lace, and she carried yellow mums and blue baby's-breath, and wore blue baby's-breath in her hair.
The bridegroom's sister, Nadine McDowell, was flower girl. She wore a baby blue gown with white trim, and had yellow and blue mums and baby's breath.
Kevin McDowell, brother of the groom, was best man. Roger Nelson, Port Allegany, brother-in-law of the bridegroom, James Barr and Paul Barr, brothers the groom, were ushers. Major Pierce, , Allegany, NY., the bride's cousin, was ringbearer.
The bride's mother chose a floral sheer gown and pink and white corsage. The bridegroom's mother selected a floral print gown and a blue mum corsage. The paternal grandmother Mrs. Frieda Barr, chose a yellow sheer dress with floral top and a yellow carnation corsage. Paternal grandmother, Mrs. Earl McDowell Sr., Port Allegany, chose a light blue dress with yellow mum corsage. Maternal grandmother, Mrs. Floyd Niedlinger, Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, wore a white gown and yellow corsage of mums maternal great grandmother, Mrs. W. A. Grandin, selected a pink gown and a pink-frosted mum corsage.Mrs. Walter Palmeter, Williamsport, maternal great grandmother, wore an aqua blue gown accented with a mum corsage frosted in yellow. A reception; was held at the firehall with about 170 guests attending. Mrs. Paul Barr, sister-in-law of the bridal couple, cut and served the fourtiered wedding cake. Mrs. Maxine Tucker, assisted by Mrs. Diane King, Mrs. Donna McDowell, sister-in-law of the couple, and Sharon and Brenda Barr, cousins of the bridal couple assisted at the buffet table, and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Barr were in charge of the punch bowls. Mrs. Sandra Heck, Tioga, aunt of the bride, was in charge of the guest book.
The bride, a 1976 graduate of Port Allegany High School, has been employed with Bill's Kendall in Roulette. The bridegroom, a graduate of the same class, is employed with Damascus Tannery in Coudersport.
Upon their return from a brief wedding trip, they will reside in an apartment on Main Street Roulette.
Mr. and Mrs. Earl McDowell Jr. entertained at their home for the rehearsal party Friday evening..

The 8th child (of Clayton and Lavina McDowell) was Earl (b. 1905). He married Mae Boyer, a daughter of George and Mina (Burt) Boyer. Earl and Mae built a home on Route 6 near Boyers Crossing and lived there for many years. Mae died on December 13, 1984. [Author's note: 11 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren survive.] For many years Earl worked as a section hand on the C.&P.A.Railroad. They had 2 sons- Earl, Jr. and Llewllyn. Earl Jr. married Barbara Barr, daughter of Elvin and Freda Barr. Barbara is now the postmaster at Roulette. They have several children. Llewellyn built a home next door to his parents. He married Shilrley Grimes. After they divorced, he then married Joyce Schoonover.

37. ELDON S. BARR, hardware and general store merchant, in Roulette, was born in Roulette Township on June 15, 1876, the son of Samuel W. and Beulah (Greene) Barr, early settlers of Potter County. He received his early education in the Old Red School House and in Roulette School. At an early age he worked in the woods and sawmills with his father. In 1900, he went to work for the Elmer Hardware store in Roulette where he remained until 1904 when, with Milo Lyman and Dorman Card, he established a hardware store. This store was destroyed by fire in 1911, but was rebuilt in 1912. Mr. Lyman retired in 1923 and Mr. Card retired in 1926, leaving Mr. Barr the sole owner. Mr. Barr later converted his store into a hardware, five-an-ten and general store, taking his son, Elvin, into the business as his partner. Mr. Barr married, December 23, 1903, Adah TenBroeck, daughter of John and Sylvia (Fessenden) TenBroeck. They have one son, Elvin J., born November 29, 1906. He is a graduate of Roulette High School and of Bliss Electrical School, Washington, D.C., and is a veteran of the Navy in World War II. Elvin J. married Freda L. Lewis of Emporium. They have three children: Barbara, born June 8, 1934; Robert L., born May 16, 1936; and James W., born January 12, 1940. Both Mr. and Mrs. Barr are members of the Baptist Church.
