Subject: Hello!
Hi John.....so glad to see your response and your comments! I will begin by saying that, no, I am not on facebook.....old-fashioned I guess....all the grandkids do it but neither our son or daughter (or their spouses) have chosed to participate! I came across your Ancestry site as "others researching" and can't remember now who I was looking at!
Won't bore you with my little info...needless to say I worked on the family when it was microfiche and libraries! Got burned out nearly 20 years ago as I wasn't getting responses from folks! Had correspondence from Florence Fay Redstone and Corinne McClure Moyers and several others...walked a LOT of cemeteries but my old polio kicked up and don't do too much of that anymore!
Yes, I remember your grandfather as "Johnny" - we all referred to him that way...and Alvah and Alice were absolutely thought the world of...never heard the "Dud" reference though! Sons Herbert and Bradford were close with my cousin, Raymond Kyser (Edward Kyser's son).
On the day of Johnny's funeral I was there with several of Denny's classmates...had trouble keeping up with the others on the way walking to church....next day I was "down and out" with polio....November, 1955! Missed the rest of that school year but thanks to two aunts who "tutored" me, I passed the NY State Regents exam and went back as a freshman with my class the next year...I was blessed!
John Spring (Johnny's son) worked a delivery route for Hydrox Dairy in Olean and stopped at our house in those months I was recovering from polio...I remember him well...also Jerry, Jim, Jud, Joe and Suzy!
My wife is also from Allegany...class on 1961, a year behind me...her maiden name was Boser...a daughter of James J. Boser who owned the Sinclair gas station in Allegany and drove school bus for 30+ years.
I'm the last of Merton C. Kyser and Grace Marie Kibby's kids...my sister, Shirley Grace Kyser Russell passed in March of 2015 of cancer...she lived on the Two Mile on the old homestead until the end.
One of my remaining first cousins...Alan Kyser is married to Mary Lou...she had done a lot of work on our Kyser Family since I burned out! She has a public tree on Ancestry under "MLKprekids" called Kyser Family Tree. Check it out as she did a good job....she also wrote it up in a book available from lulu.com with lots of pictures.
We are heading to western NY on the 19th for a couple of weeks....grandson getting married....plan on spending a little time in Allegany as well...right now we are in the mountains of AZ for the summer...out in the woods! Am hoping to bring back some old pics from my Mom and Dad's albums that my sister had...I am about the only one that still knows who the pictures are of....Alan is younger and didn't know some of them!
Regards and thanks for answering,
Merle ....m.k.kyser@gmail.com
