COUDERSPORT, Pa. - Thomas R. ""Tom"" Chitester, 72, of Coudersport passed away peacefully Sunday (May 20, 2012) at home.
Born Nov. 13, 1939, in Kane, he was a son of
- Palmer R. and Ellen Louise Huffman Chitester.
On Aug. 26, 1967, in Coudersport, he married Nancy Walaski, who survives.
Mr. Chitester was a graduate of Coudersport High School, class of 1957. After high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving as a military police dog handler.
Tom was a self-employed carpenter and painter, owning Chitester Construction in Coudersport.
He was a member of St. Eulalia Catholic Church in Coudersport and was a life member of the Coudersport Volunteer Fire Department, where he served as chairman of the centennial celebration committee. He was a charter member of the Coudersport Volunteer Ambulance Association, a former member of the Coudersport Borough Council, and a former member of the Coudersport Jaycees.
He enjoyed hunting and loved woodworking. In his youth, Tom was an avid baseball player, having played on the Potter-McKean All Stars Little League team. Their team was the only team from the area to make it to the Little League World Series in Williamsport.
Tom loved his town of Coudersport and was very proud of his work that beautified the town. His greatest love was his family, especially his two granddaughters.
Surviving besides his wife are
- a daughter, Michelle L. Chitester of Santa Rosa, Calif.;
- two sons,
- Jason S. (Julie) Chitester and
- Jeremy D. Chitester, both of Coudersport;
- two granddaughters,
- Ashley M. Chitester and
- Briena A. Chitester;
- two brothers,
- Robert J. (Carol) Chitester of Erie and
- Jerry J. (Kim) Chitester of Coudersport;
- and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Tom was predeceased by
- a daughter, Carrie Ann Chitester.
Members of the Potter County Honor Guard will accord military honors on Saturday at St. Eulalia Catholic Church.
Memorials may be made to the Coudersport Volunteer Fire Department, 171 Route 6 West, Coudersport, PA 16915; Coudersport Volunteer Ambulance Association, 122 E. Second St., Coudersport, PA 16915; or to Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh, 4401 Penn Ave., Pittsburgh, PA 15224.

Mr. and Mrs. William Long wore Friday callers at the home of his sister, Mis. Florence Sebring, ol Emporium.
Russell Rees, a student at Indiana State Collexe, Is visiting his mother, Mrs. Carlton Wolz, during the holidays.
Roger Grigsby, a student at Lock Haven State College, is visiting his mother, Mrs. Helen Grigsby, over the holidays.
Judy Brundage visited during the Christmas holiday at .the home of her parents, Mr. and Mis. O. J. Brunjiuge of Andover, N. Y.
Parker Cane, a student at the University of Pennsylvania, is spending the holidays with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Cane.
Mrs. Lucile Barker. R. D. 4, left Wednesday, Dec. 21, for Quincy, 111., to attend the funeral of an aunt, who died at the age of 87 years.
A visiter at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Burton Shirey over the Christmas holiday was her mother, Mrs. Helen Machtley of Lock Haven.
Francis Castano, a student at the University of Pennsylvania, is home over the holidays visiting his parents, parents, Mr .and Mrs. Dominic Castano.
Mr. and Mrs. Burton Shirey left today (Wed.) for Freedom, Pa., where they will visit, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. B. Shirey, for a few days.
Stephen Burt, a student at An-tioch An-tioch An-tioch College, Yellow Springs, O., Ik spending the holidays at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lyman Burt.
Steve Heimel, a student at Cincinnati Cincinnati Art Academy, Cincinnati, Ohio, is home visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Heimel, over the holidays.
Mr. and Mrs. Terry English and son, Mitchell, of Lock Haven, are visiting at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph English, over the holidays.
Robert Gibb, of Akron, Ohio, spent the holidays here with his mother, Mrs. Esther Gibb and his .sister and family, Mr. and Mrs. John Duvall.

Mrs. Eleanor Voorhees Johnson and son Frederick entertained at Christmas dinner her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lee A. Voorhees and Mr. and Mrs. H. Lawrence Groves, and Mrs. Ona Rennells.
Mr. and Mrs. Albert Kitsch and family, of Snyder, N. Y.; Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Murdoch, of Malvern, Malvern, Pa.; Orcutt Brown, Hornell. and Mr. and Mrs. John Lougeay, Coudersport, were Christmas day guests of Mr. and Mrs. V. L. Mason.
Holiday guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Sallade were Mr. and Mrs. Robert Sallade of Elmira, and Raymond, who is a student student at Williamsport Technical Institute. Institute. Friday afternoon callers were Miss Shirley Ostrander and Jane McConnell of Port Allegany.
Christmas dinner guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Francis Way were Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Way and family, Mr. and Mrs. Levi Langley and family, Mr. and Mrs. Conrad Dehn and son, Michael, and Bill Way and David Beeson of Fort Eustis, Va.
Pfc. Bill Way and Pfc. David Beeson, who recently returned from a six months' stay at Goose Bay, Labrador, spent the Christmas holidays holidays at the home of the former's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Francis Way. Pfc. Beeson's home is at Mount Vernon, Wash.
Christmas holiday guests at the home of Menzo Burt were Mr. and Mrs. Richard Fatzinger and sons, Frederick and Don of Camp Hill, Pa. and Mr. and Mrs. John Succowish of Endicott, N. Y. Christmas Christmas dinner guests were Mrs. John Weiermiller and Mrs. C. C. Valentine, both of Roulette, and Mr. and Mrs. Lyman Burt and children, Lauren and Stephen.
Visiting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Butler over the holidays are their son and family, Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Butler and children, David, Tim and Patty of Austin, Texas. Christmas dinner guests included included Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Butler and family, of Eldred; Mr. and Mrs. Keith Butler and family, and the latter's mother, Mrs. Clara Lit-tlefield and her daughter, Judy, of Bradford.
Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Crittenden spent Christmas In Mansfield with their son Tom and family.
Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Criss were Christmas Day dinner ' guests of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Brewer.
Mr. and Mrs. James Long of Ridgway spent Monday with Mr. Long's brother and wife, Mr. and Mis. William Long.
Tuesday evening dinner-guests of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Hults were his mother. Mis. Bert Hults and Mr. and Mrs. Willard Treat, all of Port Allegany.
Mr. and Mrs. John Huffman of Smethport spent the weekend at the home of their daughter and family, Mr. and Mrs. Palmer Chitester.
Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Nelson and son Ronnie and Mr. and Mrs. James Coppersmith of Emporium were dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Hults Monday.
