Brother & Sister Edward (B. 1704) & Elizabeth (B. 1718) Wheeler Families Overlap. Great Caution should be used before making any assumptions or changes.
Edward/Evert Wheeler, born 1704, and Elizabeth Wheeler, born about 1718, were two of fourteen children born to Edward/Evert Wheeler & Josina Gardenier of Kinderhook, New York. Elizabeth married a man named John Wheeler who is unidentified and may or may not be a relative of the family. Each Sibling had large families all with the Surname Wheeler/Wieler/Whealer, etc and many with the same name. The Attached detailed research paper places each descendant with the proper parent. PLEASE SEE THE ATTACHED SOURCE DOCUMENT "The children of brother and sister Edward/Evert Wheeler & Elizabeth Wheeler, 14 September 2024", before moving, combining, deleting or adding any changes to the structure of these two families.

The Four Edward Wheeler’s, Grandsons of Edward Wheeler & Josina Gardenier
Edward Wheeler & Josina Gardenier had 14 Children; 7 boys and 7 girls’. One of the girl’s also married a man with the surname Wheeler. This mean’s there is a potential of up to eight, assuming each child used unique given names for their own children, grandchildren named Edward. Below is a table of each of the 8 children who possibly could have a child named Edward. The daughter who married a Wheeler, was Elizabeth Wheeler who married a John Wheeler
# Name Born Child named Edward Born Note
1 Jan 1692 N N/A Jan’s first son named Eprhaim. As Edward is not a german name, I believe he was named a “close” name of Ephraim in honor of his father
2 Robert ~1695 Y ~ 1719
3 Thomas 1700 Y 1723
4 Jacob 1701 N N/A Jacob apparently died young, as no record can be found of him.
5 Evert 1704 Y 1733
6 Henrik 1708 N N/a Jacob apparently died young, as no record can be found of him.
7 Samuel 1713 Y N Samuel only had 2 daughters as clearly noted in his Will of 1771, as well as all other records.
8 Elizabeth 1718 Y 1741
Thus, there are four male grandchildren named Edward of Edward & Josina Wheeler. Who were they and who did they marry.
Name Born Parent
1 Edward ~ 1719 Robert
2 Edward 1723 Thomas
3 Edward 1733 Evert
4 Edward 1741 Elizabeth
As adults we can find the following 4 Edward Wheelers in local records of Albany, Ulster, Dutchess, and Columbia Counties.
1) Edward Wheeler marries 22 February 1740 to Lea Sluyter, a daughter of Breechje Wheeler another daughter of Edward & Josina, at the Reformed Dutch Church of Kingston. Edward & Lea have 2 children baptized in Kingston. He died prior to 1749.
a. Discussion: (1) Robert Wheeler is known to have moved his family from Kinderhook sometime in the early 1730’s prior to 1737 to the west side of the Hudson River in the vicinity of Hurley/Kingston, NY. This is demonstrated by the multiple church records in Ulster County of his children and grandchildren. (2) As the marriage occurs in 1740, only two of the possible Edwards “fit” due to age. These are Edward son of Robert & Edward son of Thomas.
b. Conclusion. The Edward who married his cousin Lea Sluyter, is Edward, son of Robert.
2) Jury Wheeler, born 1746 and baptized at Germantown Reformed Church, was the son of an Edward Wheeler & Anna Catharina Proper.
a. Discussion: (1) Thomas Wheeler died in about 1725/1726 in Kinderhook. His wife apparently remarries. There is scant records of her or her children. (2) Descendants of Edward & Josina were known to be in southern Columbia County in the 1740’s, specifically son Jan. (3) As # 1 above already placed Edward son of Robert, there is only one other Edward who could fit due to age. This is Edward, son of Thomas.
b. Conclusion: The Edward who marries Anna Catharina Proper and has a son Jury in 1746, is Edward, son of Thomas.
3) An Edward Wheeler marries on 21 September 1759 at Kinderhook to Anna Apollonia Muller.
a. Discussion:
i. Evert Wheeler & Maria Woodcock were known to have lived their lives in the Kinderhook area.
ii. Either Edward son of Edward or Edward son of Elizabeth are old enough to be the subject.
iii. Edward Wheeler & Anna Apollonia Wheeler had 9 children.
1. The first daughter, Maria, born 1760 had the following godparents; Sponsors were Samuel Wieler and Cathrina Gardenier. This Samuel was a son of Evert & Maria Wheeler. Further, the oldest daughter appears to be named after her grandmother Maria Wheeler nee Woodcock. Born in Kinderhook.
2. Dorethe, born 1761, had the following godparents; Sponsors were John Wieler and Josyntje Wieler. Born in Kinderhook. John Wieler and Josyntje Wheeler are two children of Evert & Maria Wheeler.
3. Maria, born 1768, had the following godparents; Sponsors were Evert Wieler and Josyna Wieler. Born in Kinderhook. It would appear that Maria Wheeler nee Woocock has died, and the grandfather Evert Wheeler & oldest daughter are godparents, with Josyna the oldest daughter, “representing” her deceased mother with the child being named after her deceased grandmother. Not that the first daughter ria born in 1760 must have died.
4. Johannes, born 1781 in Kinderhook. He had the following godparents; Sponsors were John Whieler and Lea Woodrik. John Whieler is a brother of Edward Whieeler.
5. In 1763 Edward & his wife stand as godparents for his nephew, Ephraim Wheeler, son of his brother Thomas Wheeler, at Kinderhook.
6. In 1771, Edward & his wife stand as godparent for his niece, Josyna Wheeler, daughter of his sister Sarah Wheeler at Kinderhook.
b. Conclusion: Edward Wheeler who married Anna Appolonia Muller, was the son of Evert Wheeler & Maria Woodcock.
4) Edward, son of Elizabeth Wheeler & her husband John Wheeler, cannot be traced any further at this time.
a. Cannot find a marriage.
b. He doesn’t show up in any family baptism’s as a godfather
c. Conclusion: He probably died young, or left the area at a young age.
