His father, John Bensln, died intestate in 1758. With primogeniture the general rule in Rhode Island and New England, administration of his estate thus fell to Job Benson, as shown in the Glouster Town Council Records of Chepachet, R.I. dated 11 Dec. 1758:.
Job Benson, son of John Benson late of this town deceased, desired of this council administration on the John's personl estate he having procured sureties. Wherefore it is replied that the said Job have administration granted as aforsaid. He also presented an Inventory of the said John's personal estate which is hereby accepted and ordered to be read..

He is enumerated in the Glouster census of 1774 with a family then consisting of 2 males under 16,2 males over 16, and 2 females. That same year, on 19 Oct. 1774, he purchased from his daughter-in-law, Alice Richardson the farm where her "honored father last dwelt.".

John Benson 1700
John Benson moved with his parents from Rochester to Plympton and then to Smithfield, Providence Co.,R.I. He later moved to Worchester Co., Mass., to property acquired from his father in 1731, some 89 acres of land locatred along the colony line, part in Mendon and part in Uxbridge, Mass. That this John Benson was a son of Isaac Benson is attested to by this land transaction in 1731..
John Benson was living in Mendon an 3 Apr.,1739 when he sold his homestead farm to Johnathan Southwick, in which deed the name of his wife Judith is revealed.
John Benson of Mendon, Husbandman, for 700 pounds to Johnathan Southwick of Salem, Essex Co., Mass., husbandman, my homestead farm by estimation 89 acres, part in Mendon, part in Uxbridge on the Province line with all the buildings, fencing, fruit trees-dated 3 Apr.,1739 and signed by mark. Acknowledged same day at Smithfield. Judith Benson wife of the within named John freely consents and surrenders all her right of dowry.
Judith Benson by mark 18 Dec., 1739.
Witnesses Jacob Osburn and Mary Benson..
Nine days later, on 12 Apr.,1739, John's father, Isaac Benson, deeded him property in Glouster, R.I., "in consideration of the fatherly love and affection which I have and do bare towards my well beloved ....".
The Glouster Town Council Records, in Chepachet, r.I., thereafter contain several entries regarding John Benson : he was admitted as a freeman on the first Tuesday in May 1739: he was appointed a surveyer of the highways June 1746,18 Apr. 1750, 6 June 1752, June1754: and on 25 Aug. 1751 he was appointed to the Grand Jury. During the years 1736-1756 he was involved in the lengthy proceedings for the guardianship and estate of the three children of his widowed sister, Hannah Benson Inman..
The land tranactions in Glouster between the years 1741 and 1756 indicate he experienced a moderate degree of prosperity. At different times he acquired property from Elizah Inman, Edward Inman, Abraham Inman and Israel Arnold, and sold property to John Richardson and Simeon Brown..
John Benson died intestate on 18 Oct.,1758. in Glouster, and his son Job Benson, was appointed administrator of his estat.Primogeniture was the general rule in New England. The ensuing land conveyances, petitions and evidence suggest the children of Jojn & Judith Benson.

"My father, Henry P. Little, graduated on 1883 with a B.S. degree and that he had written for Illini. Also I know of Dean Peabody's refusal to give him his diploma. It seems that he was always a rebel - refused to attend chapel, made a duplicate key to chemistry laboratory and was caught after hours, but his final indiscretion was the remark he made in the class prophecy he wrote - I am not sure of exact wording, but it ran something like this: 'I dreamed I died and went to heaven, and there was Kate Peabody, singing like a hen under an ash barrel on a July day.'.
"After Dean Peabody died, and Arkle Clark became dean, my mother insisted that father write for his diploma. Arkle Clark had been my mother's Sunday School teacher - 1878???.
"At any rate the diploma was finally sent, 1893 or 1894. My father had been issued a lifetime certificate to teach in the State of Illinois, and was Supt. of Schools in Momence at the time.".

"His body was found in the Harlem River in New York that fall [1903], but not identified positively until 1906. Then Harriet (Mabel's mother) went to New York, and at last got permission to dis-inter the body which had been in potter's field all that time. The photographs which had been taken by police, together with dental charts which the dentist had given Harriet (grandma) matched the teeth still intact in the body, which had been embalmed and was still in good condition altho had turned coal black. The top of the head was gone on the right side - but the tiny hands and huge feet - all contributed to the positive identification, as well as the dates, etc."
