CHILDREN OF WILLIAM EDWARDS AND REBECCA TAPPAN.
1. William W. Edwards, born at Northampton, Mass., December 10, 1796; lived with his father till his twenty-first year, and then removed with him to Hunter, Greene County, N. Y.; married Helen Ann Mann, of Brattleboro, Vt., May 4, 1821; merchant in New York till 1829; then for several years manufacturer in Hunter; one of the founders of the Dime Savings Bank, of Brooklyn, N. Y., and Treasurer of same; died in Brooklyn, March 10, 1876. Mrs. Edwards was born in Brattleboro, February 17, 1800; died at Clifton Springs, N. Y., November 29, 1887; was daughter of Jonas Mann and Mercy Towne; granddaughter of Captain Benjamin Mann, of Mason, N. H., who fought at Bunker Hill, Trenton, Princeton, Monmouth, etc. Mercy Towne was daughter of Captain Ezra Towne, of New Ipswich, N. H., who fought at Bunker Hill, was member of the Canada Expedition, and attached to the Northern army till the surrender of Burgoyne. They had twelve children.
2. Henry Edwards, born at Northampton, October 22, 1798; married Martha Ann Dorr, of Boston, September 24, 1828; died September 23, 1885; she died May 5, 1882. They had four children. Mr. Edwards was a member of the Boston City Government, and of the Massachusetts House of Representatives ; Trustee of the Massachusetts General Hospital; forty years Trustee of Amherst College, etc.
3. Ogden E. Edwards, born November n, 1802; merchant in New York; married Catherine Shepherd, of Northampton, Mass.. September 14, 1827; died at Lexington, N. Y., April 25, 1848. Mrs. Edwards was born August 22, 1806; died in New York, April 20, 1843; daughter of Thomas Shepherd and Catherine Tryon; granddaughter of Levi Shepherd and (97) Mary Pomeroy, who was daughter of General Seth Pomeroy, of Northampton. They had nine children.
4. Alfred Edwards, born August 10, 1804; merchant in New York; married Sophia Matilda Lewis, of New York City, June 21, 1831; died in New York, September 8, 1882; she was born September 18, 1806; died in New York, September 24, 1889; daughter of Rev. Zechariah Lewis, graduate at Yale, 1796, and Sophia Nitchie; grandaughter of Isaac Lewis, graduate at Yale, 1765, and pastor of the church of Greenwich, Conn., for sixty years. They had six children.
5. Elizabeth Edwards, born December 29, 1806; died January 29, 1807.
6. Rebecca Edwards, born April 30, 1808; married, in Paris, France, Benjamin Curtis, of New York, merchant, September 2, 1830; died at sea, near Havre, July 22, 1844; he died February 16, 1880. No children.
7. Sarah Holmes Edwards, born June 6, 1810; married, at Hunter, N. Y., September 3, 1834, Rev. John Nitchie Lewis, of New York, graduate at Yale, 1828; died at Southampton, L. I., February 4, 1895. He was son of Rev. Zechariah Lewis, born August 6, 1808; died October 5, 1861. They had seven children.
8. Ann Maria Edwards, born April 22, 1813; married, at Hunter, N. Y., Rev. Edwards A. Park, D.D., of Andover Theological Seminary, September 21, 1836; died October 7, 1893. They had three children. Dr. Park was graduate at Brown University; Professor at Andover; died June 4, 1890.
9. Amory Edwards, born April 24, 1814; several years U. S. Consul at Buenos Ayres; married Sophia M. Jones, of Fairfield. Conn., February 5, 1855; died at Elizabeth, N. J., October 22, 1881. She died December 22, 1876. They had one child.
10. Elizabeth Tappan Edwards, born February 27, 1816; married, in Brooklyn, N. Y., Henry Rowland, of New York, April 28, 1847; died in Brooklyn, December 10, 1887; he died October 10, 1884. They had four children.
11. Richard Cunningham Edwards, born at Hunter, N. Y., October 15, 1819; married his cousin, Mary S. Williams, June 6, 1849; died February 18, 1903. No children.
