He was a blacksmith and resided in Allen Township, Northampton Co. He mar. Anna Catharine, daughter of John Griesemer, b. 12 Apr. 1754, d. 10 Sept. 1790. His second marriage was to Magdalena -------, who died in 1822.
In 1783 he was taxed for 140 acres, 2 horses and 2 cattle, 2 pounds, 8 schillings. He obtained from the state various warrants for land in Northampton County ----400 acres on 24 June 1787; 400 acres on 16 Feb. 1790; and 400 acres on 29 July 1793, totalling 1200 acres --- but does not appear of record that he entered into possession of the land (Penna. Arch., ser. 3, vol. 19) . At the time of his death he had 6 horses, 20 cattle, 18 hogs, 12 sheep, 4 hives of bees and a farm of 175 acres and 275 perches of land which was appraised at $6076.00. This farm was divided into two purparts, his son Jonas accepting 121 acres and 133 perches in the settlement of the estate and his son John accepting 54 acres and 142 perches. PAUL KNAUSS was a son of Godfrey Knauss, and resided in Allen township, where he followed the trade of a blacksmith. He was born April 13, 1747 and died Jan. 19, 1808. His wife Catharina Griesemer was born April 12, 1754 and died Sept. 10, 1790. They are buried in the graveyard at the Kreidersville church.
