CHILDREN - With second wife: ii WILLIAM, b. Plymouth 17 June 1624 [Prince 227; MD 30:4]; m. (1) by 1650 Alice Richards, daughter of THOMAS RICHARDS, d. Plymouth 12 December 1671 [MD 18:68]; m. (2) _____ _____; m. (3) after 7 March 1675/6 Mary (Wood) Holmes, daughter of John Wood and widow of John Holmes. The identity (and even the existence) of the second wife of William Bradford, son of the immigrant, remains a major mystery. His will included a bequest to his son Joseph of "a portion of lands near Norwich aforesaid (which was his mother's & part I purchased)" [MD 4:144]. Many sources call her "widow Wiswall," but the basis for this is not seen.

He resided on the north side of the Jones River in section known as Stony Brook, Kingston, and inherited a large estate from his father. On 23 Apr 1650, William Bradford deeded land to his son William upon his agreement to marry Alice, daughter of Mr. Thomas Richards of Weymouth. On 28 11 mo. (Jan) 1650/1, William Bradford signed a letter with the other heirs of Thomas Richards.
He was the Major Commander-in-chief of Plymouth Forces at the Great Swamp Fight and was severely wounded in 1675. On 6 Jun 1682, Major William Bradford was chosen Deputy Governor of the Plymouth Colony. After the Plymouth Colony was united with the Massachusetts Bay Colony in 1691, he became a Councillor of Province of Massachusetts Bay in 1692.
The will of William Bradford "living in the Township of Plimouth," dated 29 Jun 1703, proved 10 Mar 1703/4, names his wife Mary Bradford, sons David, Ephraim, Hezekiah, eldest son John who was to have "my father's manuscript viz.: a Narrative of the begining of New Plimouth"; grandson William, son of son William dec.; son Thomas to have lands near Norwich, CT part of which were "the lands of my John Bradford"; son Israel; grandsons John Bradford and William Bradford sons of son
John; daughters Mercy Steel, Hannah Riply, Melatiah Steel, Mary Hunt, Alice Fitch and Sarah Baker; and Hannah wife of son Samuel. Executors were sons John, Samuel and Israel.
(4) BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION FROM WIKIPEDIA:
Major William Bradford (June 16, 1624 – February 20, 1703) was the son of Governor William Bradford and his second wife, Alice Carpenter Southworth. Born four years after the Pilgrims arrival in 1620, William was his father's second child, but the first born in the new world, as his older half-brother John Bradford had been left behind in Leiden, Netherlands. He later served as the deputy governor of Plymouth Colony under Governor Josiah Winslow. He was the commander of the military forces of Plymouth Colony during the King Philip's War, during which his eye was wounded in the notable Great Swamp Fight.
Maj. Bradford was married three time (1st: Alice Richards; 2nd: Sarah Griswold; 3rd: Mary Atwood-Holmes) and had at least fourteen children from the three marriages. He is buried in the Burial Hill Cemetery in Plymouth, Massachusetts.

A BIOGRAPHY OF ALICE RICHARDS BRADFORD, by Larry Overmire (9th great grandson), Aug. 2008:
Alice Richards was baptised Apr. 7, 1629 in Pitminster, Somerset, England, the daughter of Thomas and Wealthean (Loring) Richards. She immigrated with her parents on the ship "Mary and John" about 1630.
Alice married William Bradford, Jr., the son of Gov. William Bradford of the Mayflower, on Jan. 28, 1649/50 in Plymouth.
Alice gave birth to ten children: John, William, Thomas, Alice, Mercy, Hannah, Melatiah, Samuel, Mary and Sarah.
Maj. William Bradford succeeded Myles Standish as the chief military man in the colony. He was the commander of the Plymouth forces in King Philip's War. He was wounded in battle at Narragansett Fort and carried the musket ball in his flesh the rest of his life. He also served as Assistant Treasurer and Deputy Governor of Plymouth, residing in what is now Kingston on the south side of Jones River in the same house his father lived in from 1627-47.
Alice died on Dec. 12, 1671, at the age of about 44, and was buried in Plymouth.
