According to some sources, John Scarborough was a rascal when he was young. Born in London in 1666, he evidently was apprenticed to a trade during that time, but ran away from his masters. In 1682, he and his father, also John Scarborough came to the New World: the older John would return to the land of his birth, while his son remained in the new territories. The two had survived with the help of the natives, and John the Younger benefited greatly, as he knew some of the Indian language(s), and acted as an interpreter and negotiator.
About 1700, he sold the land in Middletown he and his father had worked, and was one of the pioneer settlers in Solebury Township, with 510 acres of limestone. The track was between Aquetong and Lakaska Stations. Later, keeping 60 acres, he traded the rest off for an adjacent 820 acres--of limestone. Although it may seem strange to us postmodern citizens, limestone was the building stone for durability--easy to cut, it hardens on contact with air--much easier than cutting granite, for instance.
John Scarborough was a Quaker, and helped establish the Buckingham meeting and another meeting led by John Bye in 1702. Scarborough was a Quaker Minister, complete with certification of his role. His wife, Mary (Farr) Pierson, was supposedly of Indian descent, and after Scarborough died, she remarried Phillip Torrey.

John Scarborough, the younger, learned the Indians language and often serving as an interpreter and negotiator between them and the English settlers. It is also said that he had run away from the family to whom he had beren apprecticed and that he was mistreated and cheated out of his father's holdingts. However, land transactions suggest otherwise. About 1700, he sold the tract in Middletown and was a peioneer settler in Solebury Township on a 510 acre tract of limestone land now located between Aquetong and Lakaska Station. In 1709, retaining 60 acres of this tract, he exchanged the balance for an adjoiningt 820 acres of limestone land. Buckingham Meeting was established at his request and that of his neighbor, John Bye in 1702. He was a Minister of that Meeting, and had a Certificate to the Meeting of Ministers and Elders. He married 1690, Mary (Farr) Pearson (ca. 1666 in Bucks Co. PA-1/ 23 Jan 1751, a woman of Indian descent. (She married next Phillip Torrey with whom she had no children).
