| LifeSketch | From the Find A Grave Memorial; In 1768 at the age of 16 years, Jonathan moved with his father, Jonathan Sr., from Woodstock, Windham County, Connecticut to the New Hamsphire Grants (now Vermont), 1st to Rockingham (now in Windham County, Vermont), thence to Hartland and in the spring of 1772 from Hartland to Woodstock (both now in Windsor County, Vermont) where they became the 1st to settle in what became School District No. 9 in Woodstock. Jonathan had at least two brothers, Ebenezer and Nathaniel. Jonathan was named on a roll of men who Scouted from Woodstock in the year 1778. He was credited with Scouting 5 days in the said roll dated October 17, 1778 by Captain Phineas Wiiliams of Woodstock. Commencing on October 16th to the 18th, 1780, Jonathan served 3 days as a Private in Captain John Hawkins Company of Minute Men of Woodstock when they were called out due to the alarm at Royalton, Windsor County, Vermont. During that service, he was given an allowance of 4 shillings for traveling 45 miles from his home to Brookfield, now in Orange County, Vermont. Jonathan married Elizabeth Grey (Gray) (1751-1831) by whom he had 7 children (5 sons and 2 daughters): Billy Gray (1776-1857), Sally (b. 1778), Levi (1779-1869), Jonathan (1783-1866), Polly (b. 1784), Elisha (1789-1871), and Stephen Powers (1793-1870). In the winter of 1803-1804, Jonathan taught school in the New Boston School District schoolhouse which was the 1st framed schoolhouse in the district built in 1803. Jonathan was in the service from Woodstock during the War of 1812.
