| LifeSketch | Adjt. John Brooks, younger brother* of Major William Brooks, was born in Hollis, New Hampshire in 1781. He came to Hancock as early as 1803; resided at a place marked "H. Fuller" on the village plan; was a skillful blacksmith. Not a few axes marked \"J. Brooks\" are now in existence. He married Susanna Duncan on 4 November 1805. She died 7 February 1856. He died 28 February 1865. They had no children, but bought up two: Hiram Fuller and Mary Fuller. *I am not sure this is correct. When he first came to town he was called John Jr., but it is possible that he was John, 2d. The son of Lieut. John was called John 3d.
