  LifeSketch	Adjt. John Brooks, younger brother* of Major William Brooks, was born in Hollis, New Hampshire in 1781. He came to Hancock as early as 1803; resided at a place marked "H. Fuller" on the village plan; was a skillful blacksmith. Not a few axes marked \"J. Brooks\" are now in existence. He married Susanna Duncan on 4 November 1805. She died 7 February 1856. He died 28 February 1865. They had no children, but bought up two: Hiram Fuller and Mary Fuller. *I am not sure this is correct. When he first came to town he was called John Jr., but it is possible that he was John, 2d. The son of Lieut. John was called John 3d.   	20260122GHLn- Abigail was the sister of Mary Kemp, wife of John Brooks, William Brooks' brother. Abigail Kemp and Capt. William Brooks, Sr were married on March 29, 1759 in Hollis, Hillsborough Co. NH. They lived thru the hardships of the pre-war period. William was active in revolutionary circles. He served in the Revolutionary War in those militias that saw much action for many years. Abigail saw most of her family and friends active in the colonial revolution. Her father, brothers, husband and sons served. The family suffered privations during and after the war. She died before he received his military service pension. William erected a memorial to her. This couple had 11 children who survived until adulthood. After Abigail died in 1787, William married as his second wife, Hepsibah Powers on 20 Sept 1787. This couple had no children. However, after much effort, this widow diid receive the government military service pension of William Brooks. Inscription: " Momento Mari" / Erected / In Memory of Mrs. Abigail Brooks, Wife of Capt. Will Brooks/ who departed /this Life January 10th 1787 /at 46 Years of age" Epitaph: "Time was I stood as ye dost now, And view my dead as ye dost me. Ere long thoust bestow as I and others stood and look on thee/" Abigail Kemp and Capt. William Brooks, Sr were married on March 29, 1759 in Hollis, Hillsborough Co. NH.
