Abigail was the sister of Mary Kemp, wife of John Brooks, William Brooks' brother. Abigail Kemp and Capt. William Brooks, Sr were married on March 29, 1759 in Hollis, Hillsborough Co. NH. They lived thru the hardships of the pre-war period. William was active in revolutionary circles. He served in the Revolutionary War in those militias that saw much action for many years. Abigail saw most of her family and friends active in the colonial revolution. Her father, brothers, husband and sons served. The family suffered privations during and after the war. She died before he received his military service pension. William erected a memorial to her. This couple had 11 children who survived until adulthood. After Abigail died in 1787, William married as his second wife, Hepsibah Powers on 20 Sept 1787. This couple had no children. However, after much effort, this widow diid receive the government military service pension of William Brooks.
