He was born on September 19, 1751, probably in Berks County, Pa, and died in Center Township, (now Snyder County, Pa) on September 24, 1826. He is buried in the Hassinger Old Cemetery, west of Middleburg, Pa. In 1780 he was assessed as a single freedman in Hereford Township, Berks County, Pa. In 1784 he lived in the same township but owned no land. His occupation at the time was that of blacksmith. He was assessed in Penn Township for the first time in 1794. Letters of Administration in his estate were granted to Philip Wetzel on November 17, 1826, and Henry Wetzel and Peter Decker were given as sureties. A deed given by the heirs of Philip Senior dated on December 2, 1828, contained these names of the supposed children of Philip; Philip of Middleberg, Pa, Daniel of Center Township, Solomon of Fayette, Seneca County, New York and Jonathan of Center Township; Eva, wife of Philip (Junior or Senior) born December 28, 1788, died February 18, 1832 is buried at Hassinger Old Cemetery. 	The Family of John Jacob Wetzel Copied from "The Family of John Jacob Wetzel", http://homepages.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~vgdeagan/wetzel.htm ,,, He died in 1785 leaving a will in Will Book A, page 102, Berks County, PA. It was dated 8 May 1785 and proved 9 November 1785. He provided well for his wife, Maria. She received kitchen implements, the churn, two cows and one oxen. She was to live in the residence as long as she is a widow. She was to have two apple trees on the property which Jacob had sold to his son-in-law, Henry Heimbach and also the interest on the 100 Pounds encumbered on that property. His eldest son, Jacob received five Pounds and “the smooth gun rifle”. The youngest son, Conrad was to have the large Bible. Daughters Catherine and Marialiss (Maria Elizabeth) each received 4 pounds, 10 shillings and the remainder was to be shared between all nine children. He named his wife, Anna Maria and his son, Georg as executors . "Philip Wetzel seems to have been a son of Jacob Wetzel . He was born on September 19, 1751, probably in Berks County, Pa, and died in Center Township, (now Snyder County, Pa) on September 24, 1826. He is buried in the Hassinger Old Cemetery, west of Middleburg, Pa. In 1780 he was assessed as a single freedman in Hereford Township, Berks County, Pa. In 1784 he lived in the same township but owned no land. His occupation at the time was that of blacksmith. He was assessed in Penn Township for the first time in 1794. Letters of Administration in his estate were granted to Philip Wetzel on November 17, 1826, and Henry Wetzel and Peter Decker were given as sureties. A deed given by the heirs of Philip Senior dated on December 2, 1828, contained these names of the supposed children of Philip;
Philip of Middleberg, Pa, Daniel of Center Township, Solomon of Fayette, Seneca County, New York and Jonathan of Center Township; Eva, wife of Philip (Junior or Senior) born December 28, 1788, died February 18, 1832 is buried at Hassinger Old Cemetery. Philip Wetzel Senior served as Sargeant in the Pennsylvania Artillery. His father Jacob served as private, 8th Class in Captain John Miller's Company of Berks County Militia in 1783."
