Danforth Ainsworth (1778 - 1823)
Born 29 Jul 1778 in Pomfret, Windsor, VT
Died 14 Sep 1823 at age 45 in Quebec, Canada
Biography
Danforth was born in 1778 at Pomfret, Vermont, the son of Henry Ainsworth and Frances Throop. He married Polly Simmons in about 1800 (based on when their first child was born). They settled in St. Albans Bay, VT and had six children together. Danforth served as a private in the War of 1812. Polly died in 1818 and Danforth remarried to Betsey Nason (with one reference citing her as the widow of Carter Hickok, but the evidence is not clear) in about 1820. They had two more children, with the last being born after Danforth's death in Quebec in 1823. He is buried with his wives in the St. Albans Bay Cemetery in St. Albans Bay, VT.
He bought land at Fairhaven, VT in about 1817.
Why would death record from town clerk note Polly as wife if he had remarried in the meantime?
