The Glass family ascends from Sarah Sturtevant [KNC6-YSW] through her mother Priscilla Thompson, Lydia Wood, Mary Billington and Hannah Glass.
James Glass was born about 1616 in England. The Glass surname derives from one who sold or made glassware.
James married October 31, 1645, Mary Pontus, daughter of William Pontus. James became a freeman in 1648.
This couple settled at Scituate about 1643, and afterwards moved to Duxbury probably in that same year. In 1650 James Glass was appointed executor of his father-in-law, William Pontus' will.
James came to his death in the prime of his life on September 3, 1652: "... it being very stormy weather, riding in the gurnetnose in a bote" he was forced by stress of weather on shore back to the beach and was knocked from off the "fore cuddey" into the surge and was drowned. Administration of his property was granted to his widow Mary.
Mary married and second time in 1657, as the second wife of Philip Delano.
In inventory of James Glass' property was taken on oath out of his widow Mary by John Donham and Ephraim Morton.
