About 1833 Calvin Danielson along with his children, siblings, and cousins, changed his name from 'Danielson' to 'Donaldson', believing that 'Donaldson' was the original family name back in 1600's Scotland. He was listed in the 1840 census as 'Calvin Donaldson,' and also appeared under that name in the authoritative "History of Otsego County, New York," by D. Hamilton Hurd (1878).
