"Whitey" Snyder, 79, of Smethport, died on Monday, May 30, 2011, at his home following a lengthy illness. He was born on May 5, 1932, in Coudersport, son of Lawrence and Katie Davey Snyder. On Sept. 18, 1954, in Ladona, he married Nola Rodgers, who survives. Mr. Snyder was a veteran of the Korean War, having served with the U.S. Army. He was a heavy equipment operator, working in the pipeline industry for many years. He had been employed as a foreman with Joyce Utility in Brookville. He had also been employed with M and M Pipeline in Driftwood, and Fessenden's Construction in Roulette. Mr. Snyder was a member of the American Legion Potter Post 192 for close to 50 years. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and was know for digging leeks for area grocery stores. He is survived by his wife; one son, Leon (Marie) Snyder of Smethport; one granddaughter, Angie Snyder and her companion, Chuck Schoonover, of Coudersport; one great-grandson, Austin Goulding of Coudersport; one sister, Shirley (Clifton "Kippy") Saulter of Genesee; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Lawrence "Junior" Snyder, Richard Snyder, Harold Snyder and Donald Snyder; and four sisters, Lucille Snyder, Sylvia Jean Snyder, Dorothy Herbstritt and Evelyn Crain. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, June 1, 2011, at the Fickinger Funeral Home, Coudersport, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday with Pastor Max Simms officiating. Military rites will be accorded at the service by members of the Potter County Honor Guard. Memorial contributions may be made to the McKean County VNA & Hospice, Post Office Box 465, Bradford, PA 16701.
