Mr. Maynard had gone west with his parents when quite young but had returned to teach school in the county. He later became High Sheriff of Pike County and was holding that office at the time of the Hatfield-McCoy feud trials. He died on October 10, 1912. Mrs. Maynard continued to maintain their home at Zebulon, near the mouth of Cook Creek, where they had lived since about 1895. The first 15 years of their married life was spent on Sycamore Creek, a branch of John's Creek. Mrs. Maynard died at Zebulon on January 14, 1929, and is buried in the Maynard family cemetery there as are her husband and several of their children."
