obit: David Oliver McNair, Jr., died November 7, 2014 at age 90. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Virginia Peters McNair, his daughter Judy McNair Rutz and son-in-law Steve Rutz, his son Robert Andrew McNair and daughter-in-law Sara Tate McNair, his granddaughter Rebecca McNair Arcos and her husband Eric Arcos, his grandson Ian Scott McNair and his wife, Samara McNair and his great-granddaughter Hanna Rose McNair. David was born in West Palm Beach and was a graduate of Palm Beach High School and Palm Beach Junior College. David was a veteran of the Army Air Corps where he earned his pilot's wings, achieved the rank of Flight Officer, and served as Flight Engineer on B-29 aircraft. Following military service, his love of flying lead to his becoming a flight instructor at Lantana Airfield. David was an accomplished classical violinist and a member of the historic Romanies Group which entertained people in the area during the 1930's and 40's. David was a charter member of Lakeside Presbyterian Church where he served as Elder and choir member and enjoyed playing his violin on special occasions. David especially enjoyed weekly pool games with a group of longstanding friends from church who dubbed themselves "The Prayer Group". David was employed as a Service Technician for Sears and Roebuck and retired after 22 years of service in 1989. David and his wife, Virginia, spent many summers in retirement at their summer cottage in Franklin, NC where he was also active in the church and served as a volunteer at the local food bank. David will be remembered as one who loved his family, music, aviation and animals, especially his pet cat, "Brandy".
