On October 13, 2016, Juanita "Mae" Rybarz of Willimantic, passed away peacefully at Windham Community Memorial Hospital surrounded by her family. She was 85.
Born on April 19, 1931, Mae was one of five children of Fred Brookover and Clara Thomas Brookover of New Martinsville, West Virginia. She was predeceased by her brothers Edward and Fred and is survived by a brother, Bill and his wife Sandy, and a sister, Elsie and her husband Ed, sisters in-law, Rosalie and Patty, along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Mae was married to Stanley Rybarz of Willimantic, CT on January 21, 1956, and now joins the love of her life who predeceased her in death by five years. She met Stan while stationed in New York City serving in the United States Army during the Korean conflict. During that time, she worked as a telephone operator. Later, they moved to Willimantic, Mae worked for the American Thread Company and Pratt & Whitney Aircraft. She ultimately retired from the University of Connecticut after a career as a data entry operator. She was always a loyal, and often vocal, supporter of the Huskies women and men's basketball teams.
She is survived by a daughter and a son, Celeste Brochu and her husband, Joseph, of Lisbon, Connecticut and Stanley Rybarz II and his wife, Kim, of Jupiter, Florida. She had three grandchildren, Nicholas Brochu and Ryan and Adam Rybarz. Mae was a devoted wife and mother who always put her children ahead of herself. She was extremely generous and willing to help with anything that her family or friends needed. Mae was especially supportive and proud of her grandchildren and loved to watch them play sports or any other endeavor they chose to participate in. She was known to be very independent and would often tell her family the phrase "there's no such word as can't". She applied this motto to the utmost, everyday of her life.
The family would like to thank all of her friends and neighbors for the exceptional friendship and support that they gave throughout her life, especially in the years since her husband passed away. It will always be fondly remembered and appreciated. The care that she received at Windham Hospital in her last days was exemplary and dignifying.
