Malissa Jane WHITEMAN was the daughter of John Marshall WHITEMAN, known as "Marsh". He was born Feb 15, 1828 in Finley Twp., Washington Co., PA; died in 1922 in Wetzel Co., WV. He married Oct 1850 to Eliza Jane BUCHANAN at big Fishing Creek in Wetzel and together they had (10) children and they were as follows: 1 - David Andrew was b. August 24, 1852; d. May 20, 1856. 2 - Phebe Hannah was b. on September 15, 1854 in Wetzel Co., WV; d. Apr. 17, 1914 in Parkersburg, WVA. She was m. to George F. DILLION and I know of one son by them; Ross DILLON. She also m. Jan. 1872 in Magnolia District, Wetzel Co., to George Washington Shepherd b. Mar 22, 1848; d. Feb 28, 1920 and I have (12) children by them. Feb 1856; d. 1929 and was married to a MCGINNIS; they had a daughter Rose and you can see their photos by clicking here. 4 - Malissa Jane (above) m. John L. BROOKOVER and Robert "Bob" Sanford THOMAS/LEMLEY. 5 - Alice "Elsie" M. b. Sep 1860; d. Jun 1950. She m. on Nov. 1879 to Wm. M. (a Twin) BROOKOVER b. Mar 1854; d. July 1930. Wm. M. BROOKOVER was the brother of Malissa Jane's 1st husband John L. BROOKOVER. I have (12) children by them and will list them here later. 6 - Mary Marshall b. 1862; d. 1922. She m. Nov 1879 in New Martinville, WV to Theodore WABLE; together they had (9) children. 7 - Frances Laverna b. 1864; d. 1965. She married twice; 1st to Jacob BATTON and they had a son named Clyde. Later to William Henry WETZEL b. 1856; d. 1942. Both are buried at the Northview Cemetery in WV. I have (8) children by this marriage. 8 - James Matthias b. Jun 1867; d. Jun 1917 in Minnie, WV. He m. Lucy Bell MORGAN/BATTON b. 1864; d. 1957. Both are buried at Wells Cemetery in Minnie. I have (10) children by this marriage. 9 - Virginia Belle b. Apr 1870. I have nothing else on her. 10 - Delia (Deala) Emeline b. Nov 1873. She m. on Apr 1892 in Wetzel Co., WV to Jacob Alfred "Jake" FLUHARTY
