Lott was working for a coal and oil company in Marion County, WV, when he met his first wife, Myrtle Ammons, whom he married in 1891. They had a daughter, Nydia, in 1892. Myrtle died of consumption in 1900, and three years later, Nydia also died. Shortly afterward, Lott's company promoted him and sent him to Green County, PA, where he worked for almost 20 years and there he met Alice White. They married on 25 Sep 1920 in Wheeling, WV.
Soon after this marriage, the company again promoted Lott to an executive position in Central America. Lott and Alice spent most of the 1920's and 1930's in Columbia and Costa Rica, but returned to the States from time to time. They returned to America for the last time in the late 1930's. While they were visiting friends in California, Alice became ill and died. Lot returned to WV and continued to work for the same company until he retired. He died in Wheeling 20 May 1945. His body was cremated, and the ashes sent to California to be buried beside his wife. The couple had no children.
