Toles passed away Friday afternoon at the home of daughter, Mrs. N. W. Criss of South East street. That afternoon, went up town and made some purchases and walked back home but when near the house his strength began to give way and he only lived a few minutes after reaching the house. He had been in poor health for over a year, following a paralytic stroke, and seemed to grow weaker each day. Mr. Toles was a quite, unasuming man and a kind neighbor, respected by all who knew him. He was born at Hartford, N.Y. September 9th, 1848, and came to Potter County with his parents when only a small boy and settled on the farm known as the Prentis place, below Coudersport, and later moved on a farm at Inez. He was married to Mrs. Amanda Hosmer in 1871, and has been a resident of Coudersport ever since. Besides the daughter above named, he leaves one other daughter, Mrs. Charles Thompson and two sons, John and Thomas Toles. The funeral service was conducted at t the home Sunday afternoon, Rev. L. L. Adams, pastor of the Free methodist church officiating. The home was filled with sympathizing friends and the beautiful floral tributes voiced the high esteem in which Mr. Toles was held.
