- obituary of Christy Wetzel: CHRISTY R. WETZEL SHINGLEHOUSE, Pa - Christy R. Wetzel of 28 First St, died Tuesday (May 10, 1977) at the Charles Cole Memorial Hospital in Coudersport, following a short illness. Born Oct. 28, 1895, in Middlebourne, W.Va., he was a son of John and Mary Ellen Matthews Wetzel. On April 23, 1924 at Banco, W.Va, he was married to the former Melda Varney, who survives. Mr. Wetzel had been a resident of Shinglehouse for the past 37 years. Mr. Wetzel was a retired driller in local gas and oil fields. He was a veteran of World War I. Mr. Wetzel was a member of the First Baptist Church of Shinglehouse. Surviving, besides his widow, are four sons, Glenn Wetzel of Millport, Edwin Wetzel of Coudersport, Robert Wetzel of Tully, NY, & David Wetzel of Williamsport, Pa; three daughters, Mrs. Evelyn Engle of Daly City, Calif, Mrs Gordon (Mary Ellen) Olson of Olean, NY, and Mrs Richard (Emily) Jordan of Bolivar, NY; 14 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and a brother, Earl Wetzel of Middlebourne, WVa. Friends may call at the Guenther Funeral Home Inc, 51 S. Main St, Portville, NY today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm where funeral and committal services will be held Friday (May 13, 1977) at 1:30 pm. The Rev Marion H. Vincent, pastor of the Ulysses First Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Shinglehouse.
