In 1900, in Ward 2 of Coudersport, 1621 people lived in 371 families in 354 homes. Of the homes, 14 were farms. The youngest were three babies who were born in May of 1900: Ellodene Rhodes?, John Beckman, and William Gunzberger. The oldest person was Jane Butler who was 90 years old. Notes about this census: The many unreadable letters in this census are because the person who did the tallying wrote notations through the names. I have represented the unreadable letters with the ~. Information that is followed by a ? is intact, but questionable. This census gives us a bonus: Mr. Leet included the number of years widowed persons had been married. Coudersport in 1900 had a very transient population. A brand new glass plant attracted many skilled immigrant glassmakers. A basket making factory, a clothespin factory, and a tannery attracted others. The glass, clothespin, and basket plants did not last long. Most of their workers left Potter County when the plants closed.
