We found the reference to Alvah in the Salt Lake City library, which showed that the information was from the family bible in the possession of Orilla Hall Snyder. Since her 'Descendants of Isaac Benson and Mary Bumpus' was published in 1972-73, we realize that following this lead may be difficult. We had not known Philo Hall's middle name before this. Philo was supposed to have come from Connecticut and his wife Orilla Kingsley from Pawlet, Vermont. In the "Kingsley Family of America" printed in 1980, on page 226 is the family of Elias Kingsley, whose daughter "Orvilla born ca 1806 probably married Philo Hall, who in the census of 1850 lived in the Town of Barton, Cattaraugus Co, NY. Orvilla was blind in later life." (Spelling per this history is Orvilla, but in our records it is Orilla.-CMM) The children of Philo and Orilla were listed on the 1850 census as (1) David (our ancestor) age 27 md. Amanda age 27; (2) Cornelius age 25 md. Eliza age 18; (3) Alvah age 22; (4) Joel age 21; (5) Aaron age 18; (6) Levi age 16; (7) James age 14; (8) Martin age 12; (9) May age 10; (10) George age 8; (11) Herman age 6. I am enclosing a copy of the family record for Philo and Orilla Hall, as well as a SASE. Any information that will help us find the parents of Philo will be appreciated.
