Sheriff George A. Farnsworth.
______
Born in Smithfield township Bradford county, Pa., October 3, 1858, and was the son of Wallace and Emma Gates Farnsworth. During the first nine years of his life, while in Smithfield, he attended the district school and acquired such knowledge as the schools of that district afforded. At the age of nine years he removed with his parents into Potter county, and until 17 years of age he was engaged in farming pursuits. Following this he engaged in lumbering and remained in this business for five years.
Sheriff Farnsworth subsequently engaged in the hardware business at Ulysses and learned the tinning, plumbing and gas fitting trades. For about ten years he remained in this work. His liking for the forests finally persuaded him to resume his lumbering operations, and he went to work at this business in Hector township.
Mr. Farnsworth was married in 1881 to Miss Eloise Lewis, of Ulysses, and one son was born to them.
For several years past, Sheriff Farnsworth has been active in politics and in November 1898, he was elected sheriff by a good majority. He has for Deputy Sheriff, Mr. W.A. Stevens, of Coudersport, and he is giving good satisfaction in the position.
