WHS HONOR ROLL LISTS 443 BOYS NOW IN SERVICE
Twelve Gold Stars on Big Flag -
- Alumni Fighting All Over World There are now 443 stars on the as big service flag that hangs in the Washington C. H. High School auditorium. Each one represents I graduate now in the country's armed forces--and there are still more to come.
•Twelve of those stars are gold -for the boys who have given | their lives in the service of their country. Four--Presley Ault, Emerson Ludwick, Pershing Mann and Herbert Sanderson--were killed in action against the Germans in Europe and two-Morris Murphy and Roy -were battle casualties in the South Pacific. Two- -Robert Frost and Walter (Bud) Fults-met death in plane crashes as they neared completion of their training in the Army Air Forces and William Marting, a navy flier, plunged into the Atlantic Ocean while on patrol for submarines off the east coast. Charles Stewardson, Robert Sexton and Harold LeFever died in training camps. Keeping the honor roll and, as near as possible, a complete recof WHS alumni in the service been carried on by "has the senior classes for the last four years.
The task of honoring the servicemen with this recognition was started by the class of 1943 and picked up each year by each succeeding class. Karl J. Kay is the class advisor and takes an active part in the work. Most of the boys in previous classes are now in uniform themselves. The records show graduates of WHS in all branches of the service and scattered all over the World.
Many of them been wounded and many have been cited for heroism. It has not been easy to compile that list. While, it is believed to be nearly complete, it is possible that there are a few not yet accounted for. Families and friends, Kay said, had been a big help in making up the list and he expressed the hope that if there is any question about a former student having been missed that it would be called to the attention of the class, either by letter or telephone. It was explained that because of many complexities, it was considered impractical to attempt to list all former students; so the honor roll is limited to graduates.
Several on the list are girls. The first part of the list, which is kept alphabetically, was released for publication several weeks ago while the remainder was being put in order. Now the remainder has been completed and released. It follows, with the eleven names added to the first part since it was published: .
