Celebrate Golden Anniversary
Mr. and Mrs. Christy Wetzel
Friends, and, open neighbors house are celebration Sunday, April 21, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. honoring Mr. and Mrs. Christy R. Wetzel, Shinglehouse, on the occasion of their 50th wedding anniversary. The event will be held in the fire hall on Puritan Ave., in Shinglehouse.
Mr. Wetzel and the former Melda Varney were married on April 23, 1924, in Logan, West Virginia. Officiating at the ceremony was the Rev. Dyke Garrett. Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Varney were attendants for the couple.
Hosting the affair will be seven children and their families:
Evelyn Engle, Daly City, Calif; and Mrs. Glenn Wetzel, Millport;
Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Wetzel, Coudersport;
Mr. and Mrs. Gordon (Mary Ellen) Olson, Olean;
Mr. and Mrs. Richard E. (Emily) Jordan, Bolivar;
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Wetzel, Tully; and
Mr. and Mrs. David Wetzel, Port Allegany. Mr. and Mrs. Wetzel have 15 grandchildren.
Mr. Wetzel worked for 40 years in the oil and gas fields in West Virginia and Pennsylvania before retiring in 1962. Mrs. Wetzel will be remembered by many for her homemade bread. The couple Christy R. Wetzel presently lives at 28 First St., Shinglehouse.

Miss Esther Alliene Denson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Leroy Denson of Temple Terrace, Fla., former Coudersport residents, and Michael Warren Sparks, of Miami, Fla., were united in marriage March 9, in the Temple Terrace Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Howard Leming officiated at the double-ring ceremony. Attendants for the couple were Julie Meier, Washington, D.C., Barbara Coogan, Brandon, Fla., Sherry, Jennifer and Gretchen Sparks, sisters of the groom, Miami, Fla., Ray Riley, James Graham, Robert Mellerup, Robert Fant, Barry Graber and Robert Sparks. Michael Achenbach was ringbearer and Stephanie Tyler was flower girl. Following the ceremony a reception was held at the Fellowship Hall and attended by 140 guests.
The bride is a former Lionette of King High School. Both will graduate from the University of South Florida in June. The bride is majoring in business education, and the groom is majoring in accounting..
