John,
Yes, I have all the info on the French Alsace/Loraine connection. There is a Weimer still living just across the boarder into Germany who is also researching a Weimer family in Alsace/Loraine. However, he does not have our George in his database. I lost contact with this researcher years ago.
The reason that George Weimer gave for moving to America is that he did not want his son to be drefted into Napoleon's army.
I have some bad news for you. The photo of the men on the Roulette ball field is mislabeled. That is not Gerald "Doc" Carley in the photo. Kay does not recognize the man. The Carley family left Roulette before all the signs were added around the field.
Before Gerald went into the Navy he moved the family to Stinson Beach, CA where he worked as a Security Guard in a Shipyard near Oakland, CA. Kay's mother, Melva, worked for the Bechtel Corporation's Marinship Shipyards in Sausalito, California. She was a welder on the Liberty Ships and the Oil tankers being built for the war effort. This was during WWII. While in CA, Gerald joined the Navy and Melva and the girls moved back to Roulette. It was during this time the town was building the ball field. The men were trying to set up some bleachers and needed a wilder. Melva volunteered. When Gerald was discharged he went to work in Ravenna, OH at the arsenal. Then got a job at Aero Jet in CA. So the family was not in Roulette when that photo was taken.

This is the man who was injured in a fire at his lumber camp at Cross Fork, PA. He also drove the stage coach from Ulysses to Wellsville for a time.
I sure wish that I could get back to Germany once again. My Wild/Wilt family comes from about 15 miles east of Heidelberg. I also want to visit Suhl, the old industrial city. A museum of German Fire Arms was built there. My Great-grandfather, Emil Albert Tapert, made a trip to Shul about 1872 to pick up a fine rifle that he had made by Master Gunsmith, G.R. Grefield. I now own that rifle.
The Weimer family history as found on the Paintedhills WEB site is most interesting. There was also a WEB site of WEIMER PHOTOS on the Internet. Two of the Boys joined in the Civil War. One was a Private in the PA Bucktails and the other a Sergeant who was killed at Cold Harbor. Someone had mislabeled the photos. John Victor Weimer was the Private who survived the war. His brother, Sergeant Martin Vanburen Weimer was killed at the Cross Roads just outside of Cold Harbor, Virginia. He and his men had been sent out as Pickets to warn of the Confederate Armies arrival. However, a contingent of Confederates were able to sneak up on them and slaughter all of Martins Men. They were buried on the spot and eventually dug up and buried in a mass grave in the National Cemetery at Cold Harbor, VA. Someone reversed the names on the photos. It is Martin who is wearing the sergeants strips. John has a buck tail in his Kepi. Michael Weimer also fought in the Civil War as did William S. Weimer. I have the records of 21 men related to Kay who fought in the American Civil War.
I just hope that the feuding of the Hatfields and McCoys was not passed down to you.
Your Fraternity brother, Dennis Wilt, is from the other WILD lineage who arrived in America about the same time as mine. His traveled across the upper part of Pa and mine traveled across the most bottom part. Both families ended up in Ohio. However, mine eventually moved to Detroit, MI to work in the Auto Industry.
Don
