Daniel Callahan services during the war:
Daniel Callahan served during the War of the Revolution as a private, received a pension until 1825 as a resident of Lycoming County, Penna. He came to America when fourteen years of age. He left home because his stepfather was unkind to him. His wife's daughter married Simon Snyder, who was Governor of Penna from 1808 to 1817. During the War of the Revolution he served under General Washington General Washington had a very important message to be delivered. The messenger had from sunset to sunset in which to carry the message many miles. General Washington looked at his soldiers and selected Daniel Callahan. Never stopping to eat or drink, reaching his destination before sunset. This service greatly pleased Gerneral Washington. Daniel Callahan served from the beginning to the close of the war, was wounded many times.
