Bennewell Snyder was born in Upper Mahantongo (area now part of Eldred) Twp., Schuylkill Co., PA.
He was the son of Frederick Snyder and Catharina Mattern.
He married Lydia Zimmerman in 1847.
Bennewell died at his home near Deemer's Cross Roads in Winslow Twp., Jefferson Co., PA and was buried 17 Apr 1905.
NOTE: His baptism record (Howerter's Lutheran Church, Northumberland Co., PA) lists his name as "Benneville Schneider".His will (recorded in Brookville, Jefferson Co., PA - Will Book Vol 3, p. 339) is written in the name of "Benjamin Snyder", and he signed with an "X".

AN OLD SETTLER GONE.
Benevill Snyder Departed This Life Saturday Evening -- Dropsy Cause of Death.
Benevill Snyder, one of the old settlers who resided near Deemer's Cross Roads, died at his home at 7:00 p. m., Saturday, April 15, 1905. He had been in poor health all winter.
Dropsy was cause of hia demise.
Benevill Snyder was born In Schuylkill Co., Pa., November 17, 1823, and was 81 years, 4 months and 23 days old at time of death.
Deceased was married to Lydia Zimmerman in 1847. Unto them twelve children were born, seven sons and five daughters.
Three daughters and one son preceded the father into the Eternal Land.
The widow, sIx sons and one daughter survive the deceased. The children are:
- Sebastian,
- Jonothan,
- Isaac,
- Gideon, - Jess and
- Frank Snyder and
- Mrs. George Burkett.
Benevill Snyder moved to this section of Jefferson county fifty-two years ago. He was an industrious and hardworking man in his younger days.
Funeral services were held in the Chestnut Grove Lutheran church at 2:30 p. m. Monday, conducted by Rev. J. W. Myers. Interment was made in the Smith cemetery.
