James Campbell (1930 - 2012)
James H. Campbell, 82, of Coudersport, passed away in his home with his loving wife by his side on Friday (July 20, 2012) after a long illness.
Born Jan. 8, 1930, in Coudersport, he was a son of James P. and Lula J. Thompson Campbell. On March 24, 1951, in Hebron, he married Ellamay Stearns, who survives.
He was a graduate of Coudersport High School, Class of 1949.
After graduation, he was employed by the former Brownhill and Kramer Hosiery Co. in Coudersport.
Mr. Campbell then served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, having been stationed in Germany. He was then employed by Latex
Construction Co. and was involved in the building of the Tennessee Gas Co. pump station buildings.
In 1954, he was employed by Tennessee Gas Co., working in the engine room, continuing there for 16 years.
In 1964, he and his wife purchased the Coudersport Tastee Freeze.
He also worked construction for several contractors in Coudersport until 1973.
In 1973, Mr. Campbell went to work for Pine Creek Real Estate Co. (which was purchased by Stevens Associates) in Coudersport, where he was the office manager.
He then worked for the Department of Forestry in the maintenance department, retiring in 1995.
After retirement, he drove for Adelphia Communications in Coudersport.
Mr. Campbell attended Coudersport Free Methodist Church and was a former member of the Coudersport Jaycee's. He was a member of Potter Post 192 American Legion in Coudersport. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, cruises and traveling, having gone to Germany.
Surviving in addition to his wife are
- a son, Curtis J. (Christine) Campbell of Frederick, Md.;
- a grandson, Dennis J. Campbell;
- and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Campbell was predeceased by three sisters,
- Ione L. Marvin,
- Thelma H. Stout and
- Marge L. Goodman.
Burial will be in Hebron Cemetery, Crandall Hill, Coudersport.
