Source " A Journey in Time"pages 381-385 (see copies in Samuel Palmer record)
from the scrap book records of Sybil (Palmer) Lyman:

"Samuel Palmer was drowned in Lake George during a gale, leaving his wife, Thankful, with Seven children with no means of support. As was the cusom of the time, Thankful bound Polly over to a family who mistreated and over worked her. she ran away. It happened that Reuben Card was traveling on the same road that day she ran awy. He gave her a ride on his horse and tried to find a home for her, but no one wanted her. As a result, he married her in 1814 at Troupsburg, Steuben County, New York. They lived there for a short time. They moved to Roulet about 1817 and settled on the back road between Burtville and Roulet. They were the parents of twelve children and raised all but two.

Poly's brothers, samuel and Jacob, and sisters, Lucretia and Anna, and a half-sister, Matilda Judd, followed her to Burtville where they took up residence on Sartwell Creek or nearby."
