Local Men Injured In Auto Crash
Two Coudersport men were injured, one of them seriously, following a head-on auto crash at 9:45 p.m. last Wednesday on Rt. 248 in the New York Village of Willing. Both men and the driver of the second vehicle were transported by ambulances to Jones Memorial Hospital, Wellsville.
George S. "Butch" Metzger, 22, of RD 1 Coudersport, who had been ooerating a 1964 Corvette, was first treated at the Wellsville hospital, then transferred to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester. He was listed in critical condition. Authorities said Metzger sustained lacerations to the face and neck and was paralyzed on the right side.
A passenger in the Metzger vehicle, John D. "Jack" Halloran of Borie Street, sustained two cracked ribs. He was transferred ' to Cole Memorial Hospital in Coudersport following treatment in Wellsville. Mrs. Edna Grantier of Wellsville RD, who had been operating a 1969 sedan, was treated for lacerations to the left eye arid about the face.
Wellsville-based state police said Metzger was westbound and apparently veered into the wrong lane when the accident occurred. His auto crashed into the Grantier vehicle while rounding a left-hand curve. Rescue crews from the Allegany County Civil Defense group worked for 15 minutes to free Metzger from the convertible.
Mr. Metzger was charged with driving to the left of the center line and with having an unsafe tire. Latest reports list Mr. Metzger's condition as "improved." He is receiving limited visitors.

Local Teachers Receive Their Masters Degrees
Thomas and Linda Todd, both teachers in the Coudersport Elementary School, have received Master of Education degrees from the University of Buffalo. Both Mr. and Mrs. Todd earned their degrees in elementary education.
Mr. Todd teaches sixth grade and Mrs. Todd second at the local school. They are both graduates of Clarion State College.

Past Interest Should Be Collected Says Auditor Auditor General Robert P. Casey has released his report of the audit of the Roulette Firemen's Relief Assoc. for 1970. The audit disclosed that the Association received no interest on the mortgage outstanding too the Fire Company for the years 1968, 1969, and 1970. The Auditor general's office recommended that the Relief Association collect past due interest at the minimum interest rate of three percent per year as required under Act. No. 84. Total past due interest amounts to $120.

Benefits Walkathon couragement and taking calls for donations. A total of 56 people walked from the center of Emporium to Gardeau, a distance of ten miles. Miss Ostrum said the walkers included representatives from all "walks" of life, from the county commissioners and borough police department, to assistance by the fire department. "The people of Emporium hope this will not be the end of projects to benefit the Children's Home," she concluded. "A challenge is sent out to the people in your community to match or out-do our amount given to the Children's Home." Pennsylvania Assoc. of Farmer Cooperatives, local coop council, and the Colleges of Agriculture of Penn State.
