BERT McELROY LEADS COUDERSPORT BAND

Egbert Clark McElroy, husband of Hertha Katherine Mosch was a long time leader of the Coudersport Community Band. Bert played first cornet in the New York Central Railroad Band in Avis, PA, when he and Hertha lived in Jersey Shore, PA. Bert and Hertha returned to Coudersport and owned the Frinks Station farm from 1922 to 1950. Frank Schoendorfer, married to Anna Elizabeth Mosch, was the director of the New York Central Band.

A couple of names in this article are familiar, including Bert’s son Clinton Emil McElroy and Wilson Culver Butz, husband of Marjory Luella Tucker.

The attached photo includes some of the members mentioned in this newspaper clip.

John C Wetzel, to be honest with you, this clip is the first I heard about Bert's involvement with the Coudersport Band. The date I'm not sure of. He and my grandmother moved back to Coudersport in 1922 and he died in 1950.
