Contact Info The Varneys This picture is of some of the descendants of Lewis Varney and Betsy Farley who started their family on a farm in Ragland, Mingo County, West Virginia. Times change but the Varney family has kept to the old traditions of family reunions. In the past on what is now called Memorial Day the Varney family including aunts, uncles, cousins and other assorted kin, gathered together at the Varney Cemetery in Ragland, Mingo County, West Virginia, to decorate the graves of deceased relatives and to honor their memory. In those days this event was called Decoration Day. Flowers were cut from various yards to be used in decorating the graves.
