• church. Mrs. Hammant has spent greater portion of the past year with Rev. Shaw and family. She Is elocutionist of considerable ability and is well and favorably known, both at this place and many adjoining towns.
William H. Shaw has returned from his vacation and is ready to again instruct his many pupils in voice culture.
Rev. Herbert A. Clare and wife of Dunkirk spent Sunday with Walter H, Clare and wife at their pleasant home on Chestnut Street. Sunday morning Rev. Clare delivered a very eloquent address to the Methodist congregation.
Charles Bracken of Angelica spent Sunday with friends in this place.
Lee D. Simpson of Turtle Point, who has assisted in Dr. Ren's dental par lors for the past several months, start ed Monday for Buffalo, where he will continue the study of dentistry.
J. H. Williams, wife and daughters Edna and Mable drove to Duke Center and spent Sunday with Mrs. G, W, Velsing.
In accordance with their usual custom Messrs. Schwartz, Cohen and Fragner closed their stores from Saturday until Tuesday and observed the Jewish new year.
Miss Neva Simar spent Sunday with friends in Duke Center.
Miss Mae Studholme of Hamilton Canada, was the guest of brother Gordon the latter part of the week.

Mrs. James Rusell of Oswayo visited friends here last week.
Mrs. E. Connor and George Van Buren were pleasant callers at this place Sunday evening.
Miss Hallie Walker visited friends at Wellsville Friday last.
Joseph Baker wheeled to Honeoye Sunday,
Our school Is progressing finely nder the mangement of Miss Ida Butterfield.
Frank Rozell's house is nearly completed.
Edgar and Will Baker took in the sights at Genesee Sunday.
Walter Healy of Chrystal called on friends here Sunday.
Miss Myrtle Walker has a new guitar.
George Maynard of Oswayo is working for Richard Butterfield.

LADONA.
Mrs. Hurson Holcomb gave a pie social Thursday evening in honor of her daughter, Miss Helen Benson. There was a large attendance and a grand display of ten different kinds of pieces. Music, dancing and pedro made the evening pass quickly.
Daniel Butler is well enough to be on the streets.
Michael Tauscher was on our streets Monday.
Floyd Holcomb has returned from Cross Fork, where he has been work ing in a mill.
James B. Benn is doing some grading in front of his dwelling.
There is to be a fruit social next Friday evening at the residence of James Benn. A good time is anticipated.
Ladona wants a blacksmith.
Allen Nelson has returned to his home in Hammondsport, N. Y.
R. McDonald has gone to Vandalia.
Orson Clinton made a flying trip to Austin Friday.
George Mitchell, of Ayers Hill, spent Sunday with friends in Ladona.
Horace Toombs and wife visited friends in Coudersport one day this week.
W.W. Angood recently visited his brother in Hector township.
Mrs. L. Erwin, of Cross Fork, Is visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs, Holcomb, of North Hollow.
George L. Myers and wife and Henry Mattison and wife visited friends in Sweden Sunday.
C. C. Warren drove over to Austin the first of the week.
Frank Williams was calling on old neighbors last Tuesday.
AYRES HILL.
The farmers are nearly all through threshing and are drawing their grain to market.
Mr, and Mrs. E. H. Monroe of Bingham visited J. W. Pridmore and friends near Wharton the last of the week.
Potatoes are turning out better than expected.
W. W, Rossiter, of Coudersport, Sundayed at this place.
Wells Predmore has been unable to work for three weeks, on account of a felon on his finger.
Two married couples of this place and Borie, who parted, have returned to their marriage vows.
John Hill had 500 bushels of bucbuckwheat.
