WILLIAM M. RUBY
In trip death of the late William M. Ruby which occurred in Warren, Pa., where Mr. Ruby had been taken for medical treatment recently, last Friday noon, Roulette lost one of its oldest and most respected citizens. Mr. Ruby was born in the Blue Grass region of Kentucky, August 28, 1847, and was one of the oldest of a family of seven children who grew to manhood and womanhood, and with his parents migrated to Liberty County, this state, about 75 years ago. The Rubys lived near what is known as Bovers now. and not far from Burtville for a time, then settled near the present Henry Nichols farm in Roulette Township, hewing out a home from the forest, while they reared their family which consisted of the following children:
- Laura, who became the late Mrs. Riley Pomeroy;
- Marquis de LaFayette;
- Asa H.;
- Hannah Alwilda, the late Mrs. Daniel Reed;
- Henrietta, the late Mrs. Samuel Angood, now all deceased, and John W. Ruby, of this place, who alone survives.
Mr. Ruby was a son of pioneers and a pioneer as well, was acquainted with many of the oldest settlers of Roulette and was possessed of a keen intellect and a wonderful memory, and it was a delight to hear him recount incidents and events of other days and tell stories of hunting and the chase of long ago. Honesty, industriousness and sobriety were his watch words.
Forty-four years ago Mr. Ruby was married to Miss Gracie Anna Weimer of Roulette Township. The young couple settled on Fishing Creek, cleared up up a farm and built themselves a home where they resided (outside of a few years residence at McKean Switch in McKean County) until Mrs. Ruby passed away nearly five years ago.
Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon in Roulette, with Reverends Emblem and Salisbury officiating, and burial was made in the family lot In Roulette Hill Cemetery by tne siae oi his wife. He leaves to mourn his demise his brother, John M., of Roulette village; many nieces, nephews and other relatives, and a host of friends who will miss this fine man, obliging neighbor, true friend and exemplary citizen.
