Here's what I have Devil Anse's son Alexander Hatfield married Nancy Allen. They had Alexander Jr. pictured above. You thought the same thing I did, he's too old to be Anse's grandson. But that's what the article says.

I show an Alexander Hatfield b.1855 who married a Nancy Allen in 1873. I don't know if Allen is really her surname. Thwey had a son John A. Hatfield in 1874 who had a son Archie Edison Hatfield. I don't know, but it is pecular that all these names show up in the article. That particular Alexander Hatfield was the son of John and Sareena Hatfield.

When the other photo was posted the question was asked who it was without explanation - Dyke Garrett was posed as a possibility. I, for one was not certain.

This Alexander "Alec" Hatfield is very commonly mis-identified as a grandson of Anse. He is not; his is his 1st cousin 1x removed. Alec, or Leck, is from the Pike County / Tug River Hatfields, but from a different branch — the line that produced Archie E. Hatfield of Fortson, Georgia, the photo submitter. This Alexander was born 1834 in Pike County, KY; he died in 1914 at the age of 80. He fought in the Civil War, Union, 39th KY Mounted Infantry. According to AI, he is often shown with an unidentified woman in newspaper photographs. (AI). If he is Elexious Hatfield son of George and Jane Whitt Hatfield, then he is my 1st cousin 5x removed; he was also Jack "the Bomber" Dempsey's 3rd cousin 1x removed. I have no idea how I made that mistake. I detached him. Then I found the same Alexander Hatfield on my tree married Nancy Allen with a son John Alexander Hatfield. This Alexander spouse of Nancy was a s/o John Hatfield and Serena J. Helton. Descendants of Joseph Hatfield I & Elizabeth Vance.

After comparing this picture with those of Dyke Garrett I was positive it was him. Maybe it isn't. Anyway I scanned the photos of Dyke and am attempting to post but I'm having trouble..

I wonder if Archie E. is the same as the Archie Edison Hatfield who was apparently the son of John Alexander Hatfield from that line.

Yes, after comparing pictures, this is definitely Dyke Garrett.. Archie Hatfield may have just made a simple mistake giving the wrong info.
