Elvira "Vicy" Thompson was the daughter of Elswick Thompson and Nancy Brown. On 25 December 1881, Scott County, Tennessee, she married William Claburn "Dick" Hatfield, the son of Elizabeth Burk Hatfield and William Riley Hatfield. They had 10 children: Goldman, Baty, Nevada "Vada", Henry Lee, Dellia Elizabeth, Ollie Belle, Jonathan B., William E. "Bill", Enman Asbury, and James Fowler Hatfield. After her death, Dick Hatfield moved back to Scott County, where he was shot by Newton "Newt" Blevins on 27 August 1924, and died a few days later. Newt was his sister-in-law's brother. Newt was charged and tried for murder, but was convicted of involuntary manslaughter, as Dick was found to be somewhat at fault too, and served a year in the state prison at Huntsville. Dick is buried at Coffey Cemetery in Oneida, Scott County, Tennessee. I have the court papers for this interesting case.
